Chapter 8: The Weight of Freedom

At that moment, Felicia was resting her head on Seraphina’s body, making it difficult to discern who was truly taking advantage of whom.

From a distance, the scene appeared harmonious and beautiful: a silver-haired maiden, as ethereal as a celestial being, nestled in the arms of a tall, dark-haired girl, bathed in the glow of the setting sun.

This, of course, was assuming one overlooked the dark-haired girl’s imminent actions.

Felicia was not actually short; she had measured herself once, finding her height to be around 1.6 meters, a perfectly normal stature for a young woman.

Yet, Seraphina towered over Felicia by a full half-head, prompting Felicia to repeatedly wonder what Seraphina could possibly have eaten to grow so tall.

“What are you thinking about? You seem so distracted,” Seraphina murmured, pinching Felicia’s cheek.

“…Don’t get handsy with me. There are still people around,” Felicia protested, struggling slightly in Seraphina’s embrace.

Noticing Felicia’s resistance, Seraphina tightened her grip a little.

“Right now, both Taosu and Anna are outside. Without my command, no one would dare enter the library. That means it’s just the two of us here.”

Seraphina lowered her head, playfully blowing into the silver-haired girl’s ear, causing Felicia’s cheeks to flush crimson.

‘Ugh…’ Felicia felt that this body was sometimes excessively sensitive, especially her earlobes.

Could it be Seraphina’s doing?

It was possible…

“Even if no one’s here, you still can’t…”

“Can’t what?”

Felicia’s words were abruptly cut off by Seraphina.

Seraphina’s hands roamed over Felicia’s body. It was baffling how skilled she was, always managing to make Felicia’s limbs turn soft and pliant in no time.

‘Could I actually be starting to like this feeling?’

Felicia quickly banished this extremely dangerous thought. ‘Impossible!’

After all, she had once been a ‘tough guy.’ While that was no longer the case, she couldn’t possibly have degenerated so quickly in just two days!

“You absolute scoundrel, do you have no limits?” Felicia gritted her silver teeth, enduring with all her might, barely managing to utter a complete sentence.

“This is just a normal way to foster our relationship, and aren’t you enjoying it too?”

Seraphina continued to blow gently on Felicia’s earlobe.

“You can deceive your own mind, but you can’t deceive your body.”

Felicia desperately wanted to retort that with Seraphina’s methods, anyone would react like this. How could they not?

She also highly suspected what kind of things Seraphina usually read. Was this really a way to ‘foster a relationship’?

‘Fostering it right onto the bedsheets, I suppose?’

Yet, she found herself utterly speechless, feeling like a small boat struggling against towering waves, destined to be swallowed whole.

Felicia struggled desperately, but her disadvantages in height and strength doomed her efforts to futility.

To Seraphina, in fact, this was merely a sign of Felicia’s impatience.

If Felicia had known what Seraphina was thinking, she would surely have punched her squarely on the head.

‘You’re the impatient one! Your whole family is impatient!’

“N-no, this really won’t do…” The silver-haired girl gently shook her head.

“I think… it might just do.”

This was the last thing Felicia heard before losing consciousness.

After an unknown amount of time, Felicia regained her senses, discovering she was no longer in the library.

She appeared to be in a place resembling a dining hall. Felicia deduced this because of the incredibly long table, capable of seating at least a dozen people for a meal.

However, besides herself, only Seraphina was present.

Oh, no, Anna counted too, though Anna wasn’t seated to eat. She merely stood nearby, awaiting instructions.

Felicia felt her legs were still a little weak. Was Seraphina too formidable, or was she simply too weak?

She leaned towards the former, and would absolutely never admit to the latter.

“…If you usually eat alone here, why is the table so long?” As a model citizen before her transmigration, Felicia found this layout somewhat incomprehensible.

During her two days here, Anna or Seraphina had always brought her food.

“No, you’re mistaken,” Seraphina said, shaking her head. “I don’t usually eat here either.”

Felicia: ‘…’

“It’s just that there will always be a time when it’s needed… Never mind, it’s too much to explain to a little dragon like you.”

“I wouldn’t listen even if you tried,” Felicia retorted.

Seraphina said nothing, merely gazing quietly at Felicia’s profile, a hint of distraction in her eyes.

At that moment, a maid served two dishes Felicia couldn’t name, presenting them to Felicia and Seraphina respectively.

“Let’s eat first,” Seraphina said.

“Mm…” Felicia nodded.

She had woken up in the morning, and after all the commotion in the library, it was now midday.

It was indeed time to eat.

Felicia looked at the food placed before her, which appeared to be some kind of chocolate cake.

It had a transparent layer of… sauce? A faint, fresh scent of herbs and flowers wafted from it.

Felicia was actually more accustomed to using chopsticks, or even eating with her hands. However, seeing Seraphina use a knife and fork, she followed suit, spearing a small piece of cake and putting it into her mouth.

The rich chocolate flavor perfectly melded with the delicate floral notes, creating a complex yet unique taste that was utterly irresistible.

Felicia’s verdict was simple: delicious, exceptionally delicious.

“Is it good?” Seraphina, seeing the starry-eyed look on Felicia’s face, knew her reaction was definitely positive.

“Cough, cough… it’s just barely passable,” Felicia said, frowning and speaking against her conscience.

“Then I’ll ask the chef to make it even better next time,” Seraphina replied.

“Mm… I mean, can I ask a question?” After a moment of hesitation, Felicia spoke.

“If you have a question, just ask directly. There’s no need to be so reserved.”

“I’d like to go outside the castle. Of course, don’t misunderstand, I’m not trying to escape. It’s just that even though the castle is grand, it doesn’t feel very free.”

Felicia stated her request first, then quickly added an explanation, fearing Seraphina might misunderstand.

…Actually, it wasn’t entirely a misunderstanding. At least, she certainly wouldn’t run away for a while; any thoughts of escape would be for later.

“You may, just have Anna accompany you,” Seraphina replied.

“I’m not used to having others follow me. I’d like some space to myself.”

Felicia’s words were practically a direct plea to Seraphina: ‘Don’t let Anna monitor me.’

Would Seraphina agree?

Felicia tried to read Seraphina’s mood from her face, but Seraphina wore an impassive expression, revealing nothing.

Seraphina considered for a moment, then finally gave her answer: “We’ll discuss it in a few days.”

She neither agreed nor refused.

“For now, you can explore other areas, or return to the library. Come here by yourself tonight.”
