Chapter 14: A Moonlit Confession

The two young women traversed the long corridor, one behind the other, with Felicia dutifully trailing Seraphina.

Seraphina pushed open the door, and the pure moonlight spilled gently into the space, perfectly illuminating her face.

Under the moon’s glow, the young woman’s skin appeared almost translucent, untouched by a single speck of dust. Even her cascading dark hair seemed to have been painted with a silvery sheen by the light.

For a fleeting moment, Felicia found herself captivated, her gaze fixed on Seraphina’s face.

“Don’t get distracted,” Seraphina gently reminded her.

“Ah? Oh, right…” Felicia blinked, startled, then nodded in acknowledgment.

Seraphina was clad in a light gray trench coat, her legs adorned with white stockings that disappeared into tall black boots.

Felicia mused that Seraphina truly embodied her ideal type: a cool, elegant older sister figure, and undeniably a beautiful young woman with striking looks.

It would be even better, she thought, if one could disregard Seraphina’s somewhat twisted psyche—at least, in Felicia’s opinion.

Of course, this wasn’t the first time she’d felt this way, but the impression was particularly strong this time.

“Is this your first time out?” Seraphina turned to look at Felicia behind her.

“It is,” Felicia replied. “I don’t usually get the chance to come out…”

“Well, you can come out in the future. I mean, by yourself,” Seraphina stated.

Huh?

Felicia felt a flicker of confusion.

What was wrong with Seraphina today? Had she taken the wrong medicine? Or had her own charm completely conquered this somewhat peculiar, aloof older sister?

Felicia considered both possibilities equally likely.

Though curious about Seraphina’s decision, Felicia refrained from asking for a reason. Sometimes, not knowing was perfectly fine.

The castle courtyard was vast. Perhaps due to the poor lighting at night, Felicia couldn’t see its end.

She glanced at Seraphina, sensing that her identity was far from ordinary; otherwise, how could she possess such an expansive courtyard?

Though, in a way, her own identity was rather extraordinary too.

Unbeknownst to Felicia, Seraphina had led her to a field of flowers.

Within the field, flowers shimmered with a silvery-white light, swaying gently in the breeze, drawing all attention to themselves.

A wondrous floral scent wafted into Felicia’s nose, momentarily leaving her in a daze.

“A scent I’ve never encountered before…” Felicia murmured softly.

Before her transmigration, Felicia had worked part-time at a flower shop for a while, allowing her to identify many different blooms.

However, it was clear that these were unique to this otherworldly realm; she couldn’t identify them.

Yet, Felicia suddenly found the scent somewhat familiar. She glanced at Seraphina beside her.

Sometimes, Seraphina herself carried this distinct fragrance.

“These are Moonlight Flowers,” Seraphina explained. “They are said to bloom only on bright moonlit midnights, like now.”

“Once bloomed, Moonlight Flowers have a lifespan of only twenty-four hours. If their petals aren’t gathered during this time, they will wither and perish, only to bloom again on the next bright moonlit midnight.”

“These collected Moonlight Flower petals can be used to create perfumes, medicines, and more. Their fragrance possesses a calming and focusing effect.”

“I’m surprised you know so much,” Felicia remarked, casting a look of astonishment at Seraphina.

“What kind of image do you actually have of me in your mind?” Seraphina asked, a hint of bewilderment in her tone.

“You want to know?”

“Yes,” Seraphina nodded.

“Nyah-nyah-nyah~ I won’t tell you~” Felicia stuck out her tongue, making a face at Seraphina.

“Actually, I don’t really care,” Seraphina said, masking her inner curiosity.

She genuinely wanted to know what Felicia thought of her. Could she truly be as twisted as Felicia believed?

Seraphina dismissed it as a pure misunderstanding on Felicia’s part.

If Felicia could read minds and hear Seraphina’s thoughts at that moment, she would probably tell Seraphina to carefully recall her actions over the past few days… thereby proving Seraphina was an irredeemable pervert.

Suddenly, Seraphina snapped her fingers.

The next moment, nothing happened.

“Hmm?” Felicia was puzzled. Why had Seraphina snapped her fingers? Was it merely to look cool?

“Sit down,” Seraphina indicated an empty spot beside her.

“Sit here?” Felicia looked over, seeing nothing but bare ground.

‘At least lay down a blanket…’ Felicia grumbled inwardly.

“You’ll know once you sit,” Seraphina said, keeping her a bit in suspense.

“Alright,” Felicia conceded, and sat down.

Strangely, despite there being nothing there, Felicia didn’t fall directly to the ground.

She felt as if she were being lifted by the wind, an incredible sensation, yet undeniably real.

Before her transmigration, Felicia had been an ordinary high school student, only gradually experiencing the wonders of magic after arriving in this other world.

Seraphina sat beside Felicia, gazing upwards.

Felicia followed Seraphina’s gaze, and saw a sky full of stars.

“How rare,” Felicia commented. She might not have seen such a sight even once in ten years in her previous world.

“Indeed,” Seraphina nodded.

“Do you know why I live here?” she suddenly posed a question to Felicia.

“I’m too lazy to guess… Could you just tell me, please?”

“I figured you’d be too lazy to guess,” Seraphina said.

“Then you guessed remarkably well…”

“Although this place is secluded, one can often gaze up and see the entire starry sky. I love watching the stars, so I built a castle here.”

“The stars are indeed beautiful,” Felicia casually agreed.

She still had no idea what Seraphina was actually up to. Had they just come out to look at flowers and stars?

If so, Felicia would truly have to say, ‘You’re incredibly idle.’

However, Felicia then reconsidered. It seemed she had never actually seen Seraphina do anything productive.

So, was she truly that idle?

“Since the stars are so beautiful, would you be willing to stay here and watch them with me for a lifetime?”

Seraphina’s sudden question caused Felicia’s mind to momentarily seize up.

What was happening? Was this a confession?

Finding a beautiful spot and then seizing the opportunity to confess to a beloved partner… It was exactly like the tropes in romance novels and anime.

But the problem was, Felicia wasn’t Seraphina’s lover; she had never once thought of herself as such.

“…” For a moment, Felicia remained silent.

How should she answer? Should she just blurt out that she had no feelings for Seraphina and simply wanted to leave this place as soon as possible?

Aside from whether such an answer would hurt Seraphina’s feelings, if Felicia dared to say it, the outcome would definitely not be good (Felicia’s guess).

She might even end up as dragon jerky.

“This…” Felicia hesitated, words catching in her throat.

Seeing Felicia’s reaction, Seraphina’s face remained impassive, as if she had long anticipated this outcome.

“You haven’t decided yet, but that’s quite normal.”

“I’ll await your answer.”
