Chapter 71: An Unlikely Invitation

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Felicia played dumb.

As the saying goes, sudden kindness is either treachery or theft.

What’s more, Felicia had never met Wumi and Haikong before. Even if they knew Yun Que, there was no reason for them to help her out of nowhere.

There was definitely a catch.

“I’ll be straightforward with you. That bracelet of yours has a tracking function. The person who gave it to you just needs to use a little tracking magic, and your location will be exposed. There’s no way you can escape.” Wumi said from her seat on the sofa.

“I can help you take off that bracelet. Once it’s off, you’ll be free to go wherever you want.”

“…” Since they had already said that much, Felicia saw no point in hiding anything.

“I’d like to ask: what’s your reason for this? Don’t tell me you saw how pitiful I looked and suddenly had a change of heart.”

“Of course it’s because—”

“What’s going on here?”

Before Wumi could finish, the door swung open. A black-haired girl poked her head in, surveying the room.

“Yo, boss, you came back at just the right time! Want a drink?” Haikong instantly appeared before the black-haired girl, offering a bottle of soda.

“No, thanks.” The black-haired girl, whom Haikong called ‘boss,’ waved her hand. Then she looked at Yun Que and Felicia. “Wow, Yun Que, I step out for just a moment, and you bring back a dragon?”

“Uh…” Yun Que said nothing, just scratched her head sheepishly.

She really hadn’t known Felicia was a dragon. If she had…

Well, even if she had known, nothing would have changed.

After all, Yun Que felt no hatred between humans and dragons. None of her friends or family had died in the wars against dragons.

“So, dragon meat hotpot for dinner?”

No one answered her. Felicia, baring her teeth, stared intently at the black-haired girl.

“Ah, tough crowd. Not funny?” The black-haired girl looked resigned. “Fine, let me introduce myself. I’m Anka, an Arbiter of the Execution Tribunal.”

“You probably don’t know me, but you must have read about me in books. I think I’m somewhat famous.”

“Never heard of you.” Felicia replied.

“…” Anka was momentarily speechless at Felicia’s bluntness.

Felicia had only just started studying the world structure and history; she hadn’t gotten to the heroic tales yet.

Though Anka was a hero recorded in history, Felicia genuinely had no clue.

“Well, fine. Forget it.” Anka didn’t mind. “Let me answer your question instead of Wumi.”

“Simply put: I think you’re exceptional and I want to recruit you. How about it?”

Anka extended her hand to Felicia.

“Uh… feels like a pyramid scheme.” Felicia grumbled.

“Now that I think about it, when they recruited me… gotta say, it does look similar.” Yun Que nodded.

“So I’m the pyramid scheme boss?” Anka smirked without smiling.

“Too-too-too~” Yun Que turned her head away, playing dumb.

“Once you sign on, you’ll get social insurance, housing fund, salary—even paid vacations and bonuses.” Anka continued. “And of course, the biggest perk… freedom.”

“Are you done? If so, I’m leaving.” Felicia had no intention of lingering with these people.

Except for Yun Que, all three of them—every single one—gave Felicia a strange vibe.

Nicely put, they were ‘odd.’ Less politely, they might actually have some screws loose.

“Not even a little tempted?” Anka asked, puzzled.

“That’s clearly pyramid scheme talk—and mediocre one at that. Use a bit of brain: where would such a huge pie fall from the sky?” Felicia shot back.

Besides, even if Anka’s promises of benefits were true, there was still the biggest issue: joining the Tribunal.

Felicia certainly didn’t want to stay in Seraphina’s castle forever, but that didn’t mean she wanted to work for Anka for life either.

Look at Yun Que: she hadn’t even been there forever. Just over a month, and she was already like a different person.

“Sigh, but my intentions were sincere.” Anka sighed. “Still, I’ll do you a favor. Consider it planting good karma.”

Anka snapped her fingers. The bracelet on Felicia’s wrist instantly shattered into countless pieces and vanished.

At the same time, the constant feeling of being watched disappeared.

“?” Felicia was confused. “Wait, are you seriously just doing charity?”

“It’s not free.” Anka replied.

“I’ve got no money, I won’t give my life, and I’m not joining you.” Felicia refused sternly.

“…” Anka was speechless.

“Do I look like that kind of person?”

“I don’t think you’re normal.”

“Fine, fine, I’m not normal.” Anka shook her head. “I won’t charge you, and I won’t force you to join us. I just need you to do me a favor in the future.”

“Oh, that I can do.” Felicia nodded.

It was just a verbal promise anyway; whether she’d actually help later was another matter.

“I hope you’ll keep your word. Otherwise, I’d be really sad.”

“Yeah, right. You don’t look like you’d be sad at all.” Felicia got up and left.

“Leaving already? Not staying for a meal?”

“I’m in a hurry!” Felicia said as she walked out.

After Felicia left, Haikong sidled up to Anka, lit a cigarette, and asked,

“Boss, do you really think she’s worth all this? I just don’t see anything special about her.”

“No, no.” Anka shook her head. “I sensed the aura of the Dragon God on her. My gut tells me this dragon is closely related to the Dragon God, who has been silent for ages.”

“The Dragon God?” Haikong found it hard to believe. “Really? If I remember correctly, the Dragon God hasn’t meddled in dragon affairs for hundreds of years.”

“I once caught a glimpse of the Dragon God from afar. That feeling—I can’t be mistaken.” Anka replied.

“That’s interesting…” Haikong muttered.

“By the way… what was her name?” Wumi walked over and asked another question.

Haikong and Anka fell silent.

“I don’t know,” Haikong said.

When Yun Que had introduced Felicia, Anka wasn’t there, and Wumi and Haikong hadn’t been paying attention.

So the three of them had been talking for ages without even knowing her name.

How awkward.

“Yun Que, what was that friend you brought called?” Wumi turned to the OvO-faced Yun Que.

“Her name is Felicia…” Yun Que forehead-slapped. “Did neither of you even listen to my introduction?”

“I just woke up,” Haikong replied.

“Too lazy to listen,” Wumi said.

“I wasn’t here,” Anka added.

Yun Que: …

Maybe Felicia was right. These three were indeed a bit nuts sometimes.
