Join the ServerSeraphina struck again with her blade. Felicia barely managed to parry, but the force sent her stumbling back several steps, her grip on the hilt nearly failing.
Seraphina offered no respite. Pressing her advantage, she swung the flat of her blade, striking Felicia’s hand that gripped the hilt.
A sharp pang of pain made Felicia’s fingers loosen, and her blade clattered to the ground. In that very instant, Seraphina had already positioned her training sword against Felicia’s throat.
“That was a quick loss…”
Not even three seconds had passed before Felicia was disarmed and forced to surrender. The swift defeat made her acutely aware that Seraphina was far beyond her current capabilities.
Neither of them had resorted to magic. If they had, the disparity between them would have only widened.
“I’ve already suppressed my strength to match yours,” Seraphina stated. “Had I not, you would have lost on the very first strike.”
“So, what should I do now?” Felicia blinked, a hint of confusion in her eyes.
“Why, pick up your sword, of course, and continue fighting me.”
“I’m starting to wonder if you’re just enjoying yourself…”
“You’re gaining something from this, aren’t you?”
“What could I possibly gain?” Felicia inquired, genuinely puzzled.
“You’ll grow stronger. Though I recall dragons only need to live naturally to grow powerful before adulthood; they don’t require any training. Truly enviable,” Seraphina replied.
“I don’t really have a reason to get stronger,” Felicia countered.
“It’s something you must experience,” Seraphina said, shaking her head. “Someone once told me that if you stand still, you will eventually be swallowed by the tide.”
“I don’t understand… that’s too profound. That person must be a riddler, right?”
“Never mind all that. Just pick up your sword,” Seraphina urged.
“Alright, alright.” Felicia retrieved her blade and pointed it at Seraphina.
Immediately, Seraphina unleashed a powerful downward strike.
Felicia instinctively sidestepped the attack, then swept her blade horizontally towards Seraphina’s abdomen.
Seraphina raised her sword to block, using the momentum of Felicia’s strike to rapidly retreat, widening the distance between them.
“Excellent combat instinct,” Seraphina praised.
‘Combat instinct…?’ Felicia murmured under her breath.
Only she knew that it wasn’t combat instinct, but rather the guidance of the Dragon Emperor’s Authority.
‘So, the next step should be…’
Felicia sheathed her blade, lowering her stance, her right hand gripping the hilt.
Observing Felicia’s posture, Seraphina quickly moved forward, intending to disrupt her attack.
However, her actions were a fraction too slow. By the time she drew near, Felicia’s sword had already burst forth.
*Drawing Sword Slash!*
“I can only defend,” Seraphina muttered. She raised her longsword with both hands, barely managing to block Felicia’s strike, needing to retreat several steps before the force dissipated.
A resounding ‘bang’ only echoed after Seraphina had been repelled.
“The speed of the swing was faster than sound? What an incredible strike.”
“Hehe, I am quite amazing!” Felicia, emboldened by repelling Seraphina, grew a little conceited. “If you surrender now, I might just accept it, you know?”
“Well, it seems I need to remind you who’s truly in charge here,” Seraphina stated, a glint in her eyes.
Instantly, Felicia felt an intense pressure emanating from Seraphina.
‘She wasn’t even trying her best before?’
Seraphina hadn’t been serious at all. In her own words, she had merely been ‘playing around’ with Felicia. Now, she was starting to take it seriously.
With a flick of her wrist, Seraphina tossed her scabbard. Though it was an ordinary scabbard, imbued with Seraphina’s power, it could easily shatter a massive boulder.
Such an attack, if it struck Felicia, would undoubtedly cause pain, even if not severe injury.
Felicia swiftly swung her sword, batting the scabbard away. However, Seraphina had already advanced, sweeping her blade horizontally.
‘So fast… her strength hasn’t changed, but her speed is much greater than before.’
Dodging was no longer an option, so Felicia could only brace herself. As Seraphina’s blade came down, Felicia’s hands trembled from the impact.
“You can deflect the force; there’s no need to absorb the full power of the strike,” Seraphina advised, then immediately followed with another blow.
Even with the ‘guidance’ of the Dragon Emperor’s Authority, Felicia found herself steadily retreating under Seraphina’s relentless, storm-like assault.
Felicia frowned. It seemed she would have to use a little magic if she wanted any chance of winning against Seraphina.
Although this was a swordsmanship competition and magic was theoretically forbidden, Felicia believed that if she ended it quickly, Seraphina wouldn’t object. As for why it was called a swordsmanship competition when both were using blades… that minor detail wasn’t worth dwelling on.
“Accelerate!” Felicia’s swinging speed increased dramatically, becoming several times faster than before.
!
Felicia’s sudden burst of speed caught Seraphina off guard. She was pushed back a considerable distance, her blade even knocked from her grasp.
“Such speed, so you used magic,” Seraphina remarked, instantly discerning the magical circuits flowing within Felicia.
“In that case, I suppose I’ll resort to a few unconventional methods myself.”
Seraphina extended her hand, and the dislodged training sword flew back into her grasp just as Felicia’s next strike arrived.
“Thunderclap.” Golden lightning crackled around Seraphina, her speed multiplying several times over, surpassing Felicia’s own.
Furthermore, unlike Felicia, Seraphina could perfectly adapt to her accelerated speed, far outclassing Felicia’s control.
With effortless grace, Seraphina evaded Felicia’s attack, then struck Felicia’s body with the flat of her blade.
The golden lightning coiling around the blade entered Felicia’s body. Under Seraphina’s control, it wouldn’t harm Felicia, but it could make her entire body tingle and go numb.
As expected, Felicia’s movements paused for a fleeting instant. Seraphina seized the opportunity, knocking away her weapon.
“Cheating in a swordsmanship competition, how should I punish you, hmm?” Seraphina lightly patted Felicia’s cheek.
“Th-this, that, I…” Felicia was at a loss for words.
After all, it was indeed Felicia’s fault, and the fact that she cheated and *still* couldn’t beat Seraphina was even more embarrassing.
“I won’t dwell on it now. We’ll discuss it tonight.” Seraphina bent down, picked up Felicia’s fallen longsword, and then returned both blades to the weapon rack.
“Seraphina,” Felicia suddenly spoke.
“Hm? What is it?” Seraphina turned to face her.
“Why are you training with me?” Felicia sensed there was more to it than met the eye.
“It was just a whim. I didn’t expect you, little one, to have such high combat talent,” Seraphina replied.
“That’s right, that’s right! I’m a combat genius!” Felicia nodded proudly.
Of course, there was also a ‘little’ bit of help from the Dragon Emperor’s Authority. Currently, besides granting her some skills and slowly increasing her strength, this was the first time it had guided her in combat like this.
“That’s perfectly normal then.” Seraphina showed no surprise. “Come on, I’ll take you somewhere nice.”
“Oh?” Felicia, curious about where Seraphina intended to take her, quickly followed.
