Chapter 48: The Teleportation Array and the Judgment Court

A piece of irregular crystal, as tall as a person, stood on a pedestal in the center of the city square. Beneath the pedestal was a azure six-pointed star magic array—this was the ultra-long-distance teleportation formation.

A white beam of light shot straight into the sky, marking the formation’s location for everyone in the city.

Above the formation, a scrolling light screen displayed the names of various imperial cities.

“This kind of civilian teleportation formation can only carry a limited number of people at a time—at most a thousand,” Haikong said to Yun Que.

“See that light screen up there? When it shows Tianxing City, that’s when we step into the formation.”

“Usually, there’s a five-second interval before teleportation begins. That’s your preparation time. If you get distracted and miss it, you’ll have to wait for the next cycle.”

“Speaking of which, teleportation formations didn’t used to have such a long range,” Wumi added. “Back then, the range was quite limited—maybe tens of thousands of miles?”

“So to get from Tianya City to Tianxing City, you had to take five or six formations.”

“Not anymore. With the birth of ultra-long-distance teleportation, you can go from one corner of the world to the other in an instant.”

“But it’s expensive,” Haikong interrupted. “The fee for a normal formation is three hundred crystals, while the ultra-long-distance one costs two thousand crystals.”

“So expensive…” Yun Que muttered.

In this world, an ordinary person’s monthly salary was about four thousand crystals. Riding the ultra-long-distance teleportation would cost half a month’s wages.

“Yeah, I think so too,” Wumi agreed. “If I were proficient in spatial magic, I could teleport thousands of miles in an instant. I wouldn’t need to pay these exorbitant fees and be a sucker.”

“Well, I have Dimensional Travel, which is a *little* better than spatial magic.” Haikong raised his right hand, pinching his thumb and index finger together, leaving only a tiny gap.

“….” Wumi was left speechless by Haikong’s remark.

“Has anyone ever told you that you’re always being a smartass?” Yun Que asked.

“Of course,” Haikong replied nonchalantly. “But where did you learn that word?”

“Over there.” Yun Que pointed in a certain direction.

Haikong looked over and saw a man and a woman arguing before parting on bad terms.

“… You should probably avoid picking up words like that. It’s not good for you,” Haikong advised.

“Mind your own business.”

“Why does she seem like she’s going through a rebellious phase?” Haikong felt a bit hot under the collar.

“It’s our turn. Let’s go,” Anka, who had been silent, suddenly spoke.

Anka was always quiet.

“Eight thousand crystals for the teleportation fee. Good thing it’s reimbursed during the mission. If I had to pay it myself, my heart would bleed.” Haikong stepped in first.

Then the other three followed.

A flash of white light, and the next moment they arrived at the empire’s main city, Tianxing City.

It was one of the three most magnificent human cities. Everything an ordinary person could imagine was available here.

“…” Yun Que, having seen the prosperity of Tianxing City and Tianya City, thought of her impoverished hometown and felt dazed.

On one side, a destitute village; on the other, a city of boundless splendor.

Could the gap be this wide even within the same world?

“Don’t overthink it.” Haikong patted Yun Que on the head.

“Don’t waste too much energy on these external things. It’s not worth it.”

“…I understand.” Yun Que nodded.

“I’ll head back first to write the mission report. You two take care of the kid.” Anka left these words and teleported away.

“Come on? Let me show you the Judgment Court.” Haikong walked ahead, leading Yun Que.

They arrived before a magnificent building. Its doors were wide open, and Judgment Court enforcers came and went.

“If you ask which building in the Isoria Empire is the most magnificent and vast, it’s the Judgment Court,” Haikong said. “Even the imperial palace isn’t half as grand.”

Haikong and Wumi led Yun Que inside. Enforcers they passed saluted them. Haikong barely acknowledged them, while Wumi waved back.

Some enforcers secretly observed Yun Que and whispered among themselves.

“Why is that girl being accompanied by both Lord Haikong and Lord Wumi?”

“Who knows? Either she’s some kind of monster, or she’s a noble大小姐 here for a taste of life. Either way, we can’t afford to mess with her.”

“So jealous…”

“Jealous? Pray for a better reincarnation next life.”

“All of you, shut up!” Haikong’s voice suddenly rose, loud enough for everyone present to hear clearly.

“What are you gossiping about? Don’t you have work to do? If you’re feeling idle, how about I assign you a few tasks?”

Under Haikong’s reprimand, the enforcers who had been eavesdropping scattered like birds and beasts.

“Tch, annoying.” Haikong instinctively reached for his pocket, only to find his cigarette pack empty.

“Ah… I need to buy more. This brand isn’t easy to come by.”

“Um, that…” Yun Que was trembling. She had been scared by Haikong’s outburst.

“I’m going to buy a pack. Wumi, you take her.”

“Go ahead,” Wumi replied.

“See ya~” Haikong vanished.

Wumi led Yun Que into the Judgment Court’s main hall. On the left and right walls hung three portraits each, six in total.

Among the six, two showed only blurry figures, while the other four were clearly visible.

Of the clear portraits, the first depicted a golden-haired girl raising a longsword.

The second showed a handsome silver-haired young man.

The third was a blue-haired girl with golden wings and a halo above her head.

The last portrait was of a girl with emerald-green long hair.

“These are?” Yun Que asked.

“These six portraits represent the six gods of the Tianqi Continent,” Wumi introduced.

“This is the Dragon God,” Wumi said, pointing to the silver-haired youth.

“This is the Supreme God, the deity worshipped by angels,” Wumi gestured to the blue-haired girl.

“This is the Life God, also known as the Goddess of the Four Seasons,” Wumi pointed to the emerald-haired girl.

“And this last one is the creator of the Judgment Court, the human God of Judgment.” Wumi finally looked at the golden-haired girl, his tone carrying a hint of reverence.

“Gods… do they really exist in this world?” Even though Wumi’s tone was firm, Yun Que still had doubts.

“Gods truly exist,” Wumi said solemnly. “In this world, gods once walked upon it.”

“…Are gods omnipotent?” Yun Que asked again.

“I don’t know.” Wumi shook his head.
