“I’m right behind you,” Felicia replied. “If I weren’t here, where do you think the light around you would be coming from?”
“Oh, well, it’s my first time exploring the forest at night,” Yun Que said, scratching her head awkwardly. “A little nervousness is only natural.”
“You’ve never been out here before?” Felicia asked, a hint of confusion in her voice.
“That’s right,” Yun Que confirmed. “The forest at night is incredibly dangerous. There’s a much higher chance of encountering wild beasts, or even magical creatures.”
“If I run into a wild beast, I might still have a chance to survive,” she continued. “But if it’s a magical creature, with my small build, I’d be dead in two or three seconds, bidding farewell to this not-so-beautiful world.”
“Sometimes, I’ve even thought, ‘It would be better to die, then I wouldn’t have to suffer anymore.’ Yet, if I truly had to choose, I’d still prefer to live, even if it’s painful.”
“…”
Felicia remained silent for a long moment before she slowly spoke.
“You can feel pain because you’re still alive; you haven’t grown numb. Young woman, embrace your pain and continue your journey through this world.”
“Why do your words sound so philosophical?” This time, it was Yun Que’s turn to be puzzled.
“I don’t know,” Felicia said, spreading her hands. “It just came out subconsciously. Just assume I had a brain fart.”
“Alright, then I’ll get back to work.” Yun Que bent down, picking up fallen branches from the ground and placing them into her back basket.

After some time, Yun Que’s back basket was filled to the brim.
“It’s finally full,” Yun Que murmured to herself. “Selling this basket of firewood should earn me a few dozen crystals, right? I’ve somewhat forgotten the merchants’ buying price.”
“Ah, the herbs on the outskirts of the forest are also becoming scarcer. But venturing deeper into the forest to find them is far too dangerous. It’s truly difficult to make a living.”
“Yun Que,” Felicia suddenly interjected, interrupting Yun Que’s soliloquy. “Have you ever considered leaving this village and seeing places further afield?”
Yun Que froze, not answering. It took her a long moment to snap back to reality, shaking her head with a bitter smile.
“How could I not have thought about it? But I barely have any money. My previous medical treatments drained all my savings, and they only slightly improved my health.”
“Now, I can’t even produce a hundred crystals. Leaving the village to go somewhere further away… perhaps in my next life.”
“Perhaps, I…”
“ROAR!!!”
Felicia hadn’t finished speaking when a furious roar echoed from ahead.
“What was that?”
Its roar sounded somewhat like a lion’s, yet with significant differences, leaving Felicia unable to identify the creature. Was it a unique beast of this world?
“I have a vague, ominous premonition… Felicia, let’s run!”
Yun Que tugged at Felicia, attempting to flee, but Felicia remained perfectly still.
“It seems we’re too late,” Felicia slowly stated.
“?”
Before Yun Que could question Felicia, she noticed the surrounding temperature rapidly increasing. Fine beads of sweat already dotted her forehead.
“This shouldn’t be… This isn’t right…”
Logically, with the current climate, it shouldn’t be this hot, unless…
As if in response to Yun Que’s conjecture, a magical creature resembling a lion slowly emerged from the depths of the forest. Red flames blazed across its body, and with its approach, the ambient temperature soared even higher.
Felicia extended her right hand, and a barrier enveloped her and Yun Que, protecting them.
She didn’t require the barrier’s protection herself, but Yun Que was merely an ordinary person. Without the barrier, Yun Que would quickly lose consciousness, or even die, in the intense heat.
“Felicia…” Yun Que stared at Felicia in disbelief, never imagining that this seemingly delicate beauty possessed such power.
“It’s probably too late to run now. Give me five minutes.” With those words, Felicia stepped out of the barrier and faced the magical creature directly.
“…Please, come back alive.” Yun Que simply stood there, watching Felicia’s retreating back.
It wasn’t that Yun Que was inherently cold-hearted or unwilling to help Felicia; she simply knew that with her own abilities, she would only be a hindrance.
“Speak of the devil, and he shall appear,” Felicia muttered under her breath. “I was just wondering if I could contend with a magical creature, and here one is.”
“ROAR!!!” The magical creature unleashed its magic wildly, devoid of any reason, and the surrounding temperature continued to climb.
“Are you trying to set this entire forest ablaze?!” Felicia instantly appeared before the creature, delivering a punch to its face.
Without the slightest struggle, the magical creature was sent flying, crashing into a tree. The tree snapped, falling onto its body.
“A one-hit knockout?” Felicia was somewhat surprised. Could this magical creature really be so weak?

The flames burning on the creature’s body gradually spread to the broken tree, and the fire rapidly escalated, becoming uncontrollable.
“If this continues, the entire forest will be incinerated…” Felicia frowned.
In the next moment, she spread her hands, and fine snow began to fall from the sky. The snowflakes landed on the burning flames, miraculously curbing the fire’s spread.
Felicia’s primary attribute was ice. Theoretically, she could exert her greatest power when using ice and snow magic.
“Watch out!” Yun Que suddenly cried.
“Hm?” Felicia looked up, seeing a fireball hurtling towards her. Behind the fireball, the magical creature revealed its fangs.
Only then did Felicia realize that the creature had been feigning death, waiting for her to expend a significant amount of magic before striking, intending to defeat her in a single blow.
Even though Felicia’s snowfall range wasn’t vast, manipulating the weather with magic still demanded considerable power. If Felicia weren’t a dragon, she likely wouldn’t have been able to sustain such a massive magical consumption.
“I didn’t expect these wild-type enemies to possess intelligence… I was too careless.”
The fireball arrived too swiftly; dodging was impossible. Felicia could only endure the attack head-on.
BOOM!!!
After the explosion, dust billowed, leaving only a deep crater where she had stood. The surrounding trees had been shattered by the shockwave, and the situation was chaotic.
“Cough, cough, cough… How embarrassing.” Felicia leaped out of the dense smoke. She had sustained no injuries, though her clothes were somewhat damaged.
“Very well, then. I’ll end you with this move.” Felicia held a blade in her right hand, an ice blade condensed from her magic.
The ice blade swung, and a slash faster than sound cleaved the magical creature in two.
However, the creature’s vitality was remarkably tenacious; even severed in half, its body continued to writhe. For such an un-dead enemy, Felicia delivered another horizontal cut, ensuring the magical creature was thoroughly deceased.
“…” Felicia stood, ice blade in hand, gazing at the creature’s corpse, her heart utterly calm.
“I should go check on Yun Que.”
“Yun Que, are you alright?” Felicia asked with concern.
“I’m fine.” Yun Que walked out of the barrier. “Felicia, you’re truly amazing.”
“Just average. It’s getting late now; let’s head back.”
“Okay.” Yun Que nodded.
