“So why can’t you treat her better?”
“This isn’t a doctor’s advice, but a friend’s counsel.”
“I rarely give advice, but given your current situation, I have to say a few more words.”
Although no one had told Bai Ye what Felicia had been through, Bai Ye was sharp. After treating Felicia’s body, she had pieced together most of the story.
Bai Ye felt that Seraphina had truly gone too far.
Regardless of whether Felicia’s pursuit of freedom was right or wrong, even if Felicia had made a mistake, was Seraphina’s excessive punishment justified?
If Felicia weren’t a dragon but a human, the injuries alone would have been fatal.
“I just…” Seraphina’s words suddenly halted. After a long while, she continued in a very soft voice. “I just… like her.”
“Like?” Bai Ye’s tone turned sharp. “Is your so-called ‘like’ treating an equal life as a pet, using your power to trample her body recklessly, or locking her here without any regard?”
Bai Ye grew more agitated as she spoke, eventually even standing up from her chair and slamming her hand hard on the stone table.
“What right do you have? What authority do you have to do this?!”
“This…” Seraphina had never seen Bai Ye like this before.
In Seraphina’s eyes, Bai Ye’s personality had always been free-spirited and easygoing.
But for some reason, Bai Ye was now so angry.
“Ha…” After venting, Bai Ye sat back down. Why had she reacted so strongly? Was it out of sympathy?
…No, it wasn’t sympathy.
Bai Ye had lived for over a hundred years, traveled across the Tianqi Continent, and witnessed countless tragedies. Even when she occasionally sympathized with the protagonists of those tragedies, she had never reacted so intensely.
So what was the reason? Bai Ye herself couldn’t figure it out.
“I’m sorry, I overstepped just now,” Bai Ye said.
“No… maybe you’re right. I shouldn’t treat her like this. It’s my fault,” Seraphina shook her head.
“Hmm?” Bai Ye squinted. “Is there something on my face?”
“Nothing.” Bai Ye took out a thin booklet from her spatial storage and placed it in front of Seraphina.
“What is this?”
“A rehabilitation manual,” Bai Ye replied. “Although I’ve mostly healed that little girl’s injuries, there are still some hidden ones. Don’t rush to say my abilities are insufficient—your lightning’s destructive power is too strong; I can’t fully cure it. But if you follow the manual and don’t provoke her for a few days, her remaining injuries will gradually improve.”
“I really don’t know how to thank you,” Seraphina put away the manual.
“If you really want to thank me, then just be nicer to her,” Bai Ye said casually.
“Are you two really not mother and daughter, or sisters or something?” Seraphina suddenly blurted out.
“Huh?” Bai Ye was taken aback. “I’m an elf, and she’s a dragon. Let me ask you, how can an elf give birth to a dragon? Or why would a dragon have any blood relation to an elf?”
“What if it’s a hybrid…” Seraphina muttered.
“Absolutely impossible. Are you out of your mind?” Bai Ye rolled her eyes at Seraphina.
“Elves are born from the buds of the Tree of Life. To have a child, we don’t need to do that sort of thing—we just contribute our blood to the Tree of Life. Besides, I didn’t sense any elven bloodline from that child.”
“Just kidding,” Seraphina said.
“That joke wasn’t funny at all,” Bai Ye shook her head. “Enough talk. I have things to do. I’m off. Bye~”
Bai Ye snapped her fingers and teleported away using spatial magic.
Seraphina opened the rehabilitation manual Bai Ye had left and glanced through a few pages.
“So that’s how it is…” Seraphina marveled.
Looking at the manual Bai Ye left, Seraphina felt as if a door to a new world had opened. The old-timers really know how to play; a young girl in her twenties like herself knew far too little.
“Tsk tsk tsk…”

At that moment, Felicia was lying in her bed, sleeping. Although her injuries had been healed by Bai Ye, she didn’t feel like moving and just wanted to sleep.
Suddenly, the door to the room was pushed open, and Seraphina sneaked in. Felicia didn’t notice any of this; she just lay on her small bed, fast asleep.
Seraphina didn’t wake Felicia. She simply took off her shoes, lay down beside Felicia, and hugged her just like before. Then they fell asleep together.

After an unknown amount of time, Felicia woke up.
“Mm… What’s going on?” Felicia found herself tightly held in a strong arm. Based on her many experiences of being “night-attacked” (?), Felicia instantly identified the intruder. Seraphina.
Felicia turned over and looked at the sleeping black-haired girl behind her.
Normally, Seraphina was either expressionless, wore a mischievous smile, or had a cold face when punishing Felicia.
Come to think of it, she and Seraphina had shared a bed before, but this was the first time she observed Seraphina’s sleeping face at such close range.
The black-haired girl’s sleeping face was very peaceful, with even a smile at the corner of her mouth—she must be having a sweet dream.
Suddenly, Felicia noticed Seraphina’s eyelashes flutter slightly; it seemed she was about to wake up. Before Felicia could turn back, Seraphina opened her eyes.
In that instant, their eyes met, and they stared at each other in silence.
“I’m sorry…” Seraphina spoke. “I shouldn’t have treated you like that. When the lightning pierced you, it must have hurt a lot, right?”
“….” Felicia didn’t answer, because she was too shocked. She actually heard an apology from Seraphina’s mouth? Was the sun rising from the west today, or was the world about to end?
“Am I about to die? Or am I dreaming?” Felicia pinched her cheek hard. It hurt—really hurt. But it also confirmed one thing: she was not dreaming. Seraphina really was apologizing to her!
But then Felicia thought of the loneliness and helplessness in the dark room, the pain of lightning piercing her body again and again. The hand she had reached out to grab Seraphina’s trembled and withdrew.
“Tch… I mean, I don’t accept your apology.” Felicia crossed her arms over her chest.
