“They are: the Life God of the Elves, the Underworld God of the Demons, the Dragon God of the Dragons, the Judgment God of Humans, the Supreme God of the Angels, and the Space God of some unknown race.”
“Oh, right, the Judgment God is also the founder of the Inquisition. I guess you could say He was the first Grand Judge.”
“Um, I have a question.” Yun Que voiced her confusion.
“Go ahead.” Wumi said.
“Why is the organization created by the Judgment God called the Inquisition?”
“…Your questions always seem to catch people off guard. I don’t think a normal person would ask that.” Wumi was a bit speechless.
“But I can answer you. It’s simple. In the beginning, the Inquisition was actually called the Judgment Legion. Those chosen for the Legion would basically become powerful warriors.”
“A long, long time ago, this world was very chaotic. Everywhere was at war, all races fighting. Seventy-three years ago, the world achieved temporary peace. The Judgment Legion was renamed the Inquisition, and its function changed from participating in war to what it is today.”
“Members of the Inquisition are also called ‘Enforcers.’ Enforcers are divided into apprentice enforcers and full enforcers. Apprentice enforcers are also called D-Class personnel, while the ranks of full enforcers, from low to high, are Wind, Flower, Snow, and Moon.”
“So this place is still a violent institution?” Yun Que asked.
“Isn’t that obvious… Let’s go. I still need to find you a mentor.”
“What’s a mentor?”
“Someone who takes you on missions… Can you stop asking so many questions? I really don’t want to answer.” Wumi seemed to be getting annoyed.
So Yun Que obediently shut up.
Wumi led Yun Que to the residential area on the first floor of the Inquisition. Rooms were packed closely together, just like a school dormitory.
She pushed open a door, and Yun Que saw the inside.
The room had nothing but four beds. A dim chandelier hung overhead, and Yun Que felt it could go out at any moment.
In this spartan dormitory, a woman sat on one of the beds, her back to them. Yun Que couldn’t see her face.
“Yvonne, I’ve brought you a newbie.”
“Oh?” The woman stood up, turned around, and looked at Wumi and Yun Que.
This woman called Yvonne appeared to be in her twenties. Her long black hair hung messily behind her, looking like it hadn’t been cared for in a long time.
She wore a black leather jacket and black trousers, with black gloves on her hands. A longsword and a pistol hung at her waist, and two greatswords were strapped to her back.
There was a scar on Yvonne’s face. It wasn’t large, but it was very noticeable.
In this era where everyone could use magic and technology was advanced, having a scar was unusual. After all, one could simply see a doctor or a nun for treatment.
The only possibility was that even ordinary healing magic or medicine couldn’t fully heal this person’s wounds.
“Unsteady steps, weak body, faint magic power… Wumi, why did you bring me such a useless piece of trash?” Yvonne glanced at Yun Que, seemingly displeased.
“Even though the Inquisition recruits some unlucky people as D-Class personnel every year, can you at least not dump these rejects on me? I don’t need these cannon fodder.”
“This is someone personally selected by Lord Anka. I brought her to you for training. One month. Train her as best you can.” Wumi replied.
Yvonne looked at Yun Que more carefully, but still saw just an ordinary person.
Why would this person gain the Dominator’s favor? Could it be some special transaction?
But the Dominator wouldn’t need that kind of service, would they?
“I’m leaving now. You handle it yourself.” With those words, Wumi slipped away, leaving only Yun Que and Yvonne.
“Follow me.” Yvonne walked out the door.
Yun Que didn’t ask questions; she silently followed behind Yvonne.
Yvonne took Yun Que to a training hall in Tianxing City. It was spacious, even having private rooms.
She took out a blue transparent card and swiped a sum of money to the hall owner, securing the use of a private room for a month.
Yun Que looked at the silver-white floor and all kinds of equipment she had never seen before, feeling as if she was seeing this world for the first time.
The two entered the private room. Yvonne glanced at the training weapons on the rack, shook her head, and took out a box from her own space.
Yvonne opened the box. It contained various weapons: longswords, spears, long blades, hammers, and even firearms.
“You, pick any weapon from the box and spar with me.” As she spoke, Yvonne drew the longsword from her waist and held it in her right hand.
“For this training, I won’t use any other weapons.”
Yun Que also picked up a longsword and examined it. The blade gleamed coldly, sending a chill down her spine.
Even with her limited experience, Yun Que realized this was not a blunted training weapon but a real weapon capable of killing.
She had seen the weapons of those bandits before, but what Yvonne provided was at least several tiers higher in quality.
With a weapon like this, killing would only take a moment, right?
Yun Que’s hands trembled.
“What, scared?” Yvonne’s voice came through.
“I don’t know what you did to earn the Dominator’s favor, but let me tell you: an Enforcer of the Inquisition never fears death. If you’re afraid of death, if you’re a coward, then get out of here.”
Yun Que thought of Felicia, who had helped her. She wanted to do something for Felicia too.
And this place was the springboard for her first step.
Without the present, how could there be a future?
Yun Que didn’t answer. She just gripped the hilt tightly with both hands, aimed it at Yvonne, and stared at her intently.
“Good.” Yvonne praised, then attacked with her weapon.
“Aaaah!!!” Yun Que closed her eyes and swung with all her might at Yvonne.
But Yun Que didn’t suddenly power up just because she yelled loudly. The gap in strength was too great. Yvonne sent her flying, weapon and all, slamming her hard against the wall.
Yvonne’s weapon was indeed of high quality. Even though Yun Que was sent flying, the weapon in her hand remained unscathed.
“Cough…” Yun Que’s vision blurred. She felt like all her bones were shattered.
Just as Yun Que thought she was going to die, a soft white light suddenly enveloped her. Her injuries healed rapidly.
Yun Que was confused. She didn’t expect Yvonne to know such powerful healing magic.
“I used to be a nun for a while.” Yvonne said.
“Rest time’s over. Let’s continue.”
