Chapter 55: A Walk in the Garden

“So how can I actually escape?”

Felicia kept pondering this question.

Of course, she ultimately found no answer.

Just as she was about to head back inside to sleep, she felt someone embrace her from behind.

Two arms locked tightly around Felicia, trapping her in their hold, preventing her from moving forward or backward even a single step.

“!” Felicia was startled.

This—this can’t be right. How could Seraphina be here? Was she following her all along?!

Felicia wondered if Seraphina had overheard what she had just said. If so, would she be locked back in that dark little room?

She was genuinely terrified. The mere thought nearly made her cry.

“Hm?” Seraphina felt Felicia trembling in her arms and found it very strange.

Clearly, Seraphina hadn’t heard what Felicia was saying, and Felicia didn’t know that.

After a few minutes, Felicia’s intelligence regained the high ground. She realized Seraphina probably hadn’t heard her, so she gradually calmed down.

“I have a question. Um, how did you know I was here? Was it just a coincidence?” After a moment of hesitation, Felicia voiced her confusion.

“Oh, that’s simple,” Seraphina said.

Felicia eagerly awaited Seraphina’s answer.

“But I’m not telling you. Ehehe~” Seraphina blinked.

Damn it!

Felicia wanted to give Seraphina a beating.

But then she thought about it—she couldn’t win, and she’d end up getting pinned down and beaten instead. Of course, the other kind of beating.

So Felicia abandoned that idea.

“Don’t you have things to do?” Felicia asked.

“Those things are optional,” Seraphina replied. “I can basically delegate everything to others, especially Anna. I recognize her work ethic—she can use twenty-five hours a day.”

“… Anna would probably cry if she heard that,” Felicia remarked.

“Actually, no. After all, I pay her well.”

“….” Felicia was stunned again.

She realized that if she ever truly regained her freedom, she should first find a way to earn money.

Felicia declared that she too wanted to be rich.

Oh wait, she meant a rich dragon, since she wasn’t human.

“So, is there something you need from me?” Felicia asked.

“Can’t I look for you without a reason?” Seraphina countered.

“Then I have nothing to say…” Felicia found she couldn’t refute Seraphina’s words.

So she fell silent.

They sank into silence, and Felicia felt uneasy all over.

When had Seraphina become so quiet? She hadn’t made any moves, which caught Felicia off guard.

“Um, could you let me go for a moment?” Felicia asked.

“Sure,” Seraphina released her. “Come take a walk with me around here.”

Felicia didn’t know what Seraphina was thinking, but clearly she had no reason to refuse, so she agreed.

The castle’s garden was huge; Seraphina hadn’t shown Felicia all of it before. Now she continued leading Felicia through it.

“…” Felicia walked behind Seraphina, occasionally lifting her eyes to observe Seraphina’s reactions.

But to Felicia’s shock, Seraphina seemed genuinely just showing her around the garden.

‘Is this right?’ Felicia thought to herself.

Meanwhile, Seraphina, walking ahead, suddenly recalled Haikong’s words.

[Hey, let me tell you, the first lesson in chasing a girl is companionship. To become the most important person in her life, companionship is essential. Even if your presence can’t compare to her family’s, you still need to do your best.]

Seraphina found this advice quite reasonable.

If Seraphina knew that Haikong’s experience all came from bishoujo dating sims, she’d probably strangle him on the spot.

……

A whole morning passed like this. During that time, Seraphina didn’t touch Felicia or say anything weird, which made Felicia, accustomed to Seraphina’s special behavior, feel somewhat unaccustomed.

Felicia thought she must have a bit of Stockholm syndrome, otherwise why would she find this unusual?

She followed Seraphina to the dining table, only to find no food on it—just two empty plates.

“Uh… Isn’t it mealtime now? Where’s the food?” Felicia hesitated for a moment before mustering the courage to speak.

[If it’s a first meeting or you’re not very familiar with each other, you can start by simply treating her to something she likes.]

This was Haikong’s exact words.

Unfortunately, Seraphina actually didn’t know what Felicia liked to eat, and she was too embarrassed to ask directly.

So, Seraphina’s answer was…

“Hmm… Eat whatever you like,” Seraphina said to Felicia.

Just a second ago, Felicia had been sitting bored in her chair, playing with her fork. But upon hearing Seraphina’s words, she instantly froze.

Caught off guard, the fork slipped from her hand, hitting the floor with a crisp clang.

That sharp sound jolted Felicia back to her senses.

She vaguely remembered hearing such words only when doctors spoke to patients—and usually when the patient was beyond saving, the doctor would say something like that.

And that often meant the doctor had done everything they could.

She was perfectly healthy now; there was no terminal illness. Yet Seraphina still said that.

Could it mean… Seraphina had lost patience and was about to kill her?

The more Felicia thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. Now, because of her escape attempt, Seraphina had completely lost patience and was ready to dispose of her.

Realizing this, Felicia’s raised hand trembled, even blurring from the shaking.

Literally trembling with fear.

“?” Seraphina looked at Felicia, who remained silent for a long time, and assumed that her concern had made Felicia need some time to adjust.

So Seraphina didn’t say anything more, which unfortunately gave Felicia room for wild imagination.

Now Felicia was convinced that Seraphina was going to get rid of her.

“D-don’t kill me! I can do anything—wash clothes, cook, eat, or even let you eat me! Just please don’t kill me!” Felicia was so scared she almost fell to her knees before Seraphina, even babbling incoherently.

Just kidding—actually, Felicia had already wanted to kneel, but her trembling legs couldn’t even get her off the chair.

“Huh?” Seraphina stared at Felicia, who was shaking all over.

Tears swirled in the girl’s sapphire-like eyes, on the verge of spilling out.

Felicia’s pleas for mercy confused Seraphina even more.

“Listen to me…” Seraphina wasn’t good at comforting people. Faced with this situation, she could only slowly explain to Felicia.
