Join the ServerThe two of them arrived at Tianxing City via the ultra-long-distance teleportation array of Tianya City. As Seraphina had said, Tianxing City was even more prosperous than Tianya City—not just by a little, but by a lot.
“So many people…” Felicia looked at the bustling scene around the teleportation array, clearly taken aback.
“As one of the largest human cities, Tianxing City naturally has the highest foot traffic. It’s almost always this crowded, no matter the time.” Seraphina gently grasped Felicia’s hand, explaining.
“Huh?” Felicia looked at Seraphina, then at her own captured hand.
“If I don’t hold on, what if you get lost?”
“How could I make such a rookie mistake… I’m not a child.” Felicia’s head drooped, but despite her words, she didn’t pull her hand away. Instead, she let Seraphina keep holding it.
“There seems to be a mall up ahead. Since we’re here, let’s go take a look.” Seraphina suggested.
“Alright…” Felicia nodded. She wasn’t really interested in shopping, but she couldn’t refuse Seraphina.
They entered the mall, but before they had taken two steps, they ran into an acquaintance.
“Felicia?” Yun Que’s voice rang out.
“Yun Que?” Felicia turned and saw Haikong and Yun Que not far away.
“What are you two…?” Yun Que approached, noticing Seraphina and Felicia holding hands.
“Uh… close friends?” Felicia replied casually.
“Really?”
“Really, really.” Felicia nodded.
“Alright.” Yun Que didn’t suspect anything.
“What are you doing here?” Haikong also walked over, mainly wanting to join in on the fun.
“I don’t think Tianxing City has any rules saying we can’t be here, does it?” Seraphina retorted.
“Why so aggressive… I’m just curious. What did I do to provoke you?” Haikong raised his hands.
“I just don’t like you.” Seraphina replied.
“Then I can’t do anything about that.” Haikong shrugged.
“So what are you two doing here? Could it be…” Seraphina scanned Haikong and Yun Que.
*Are they a thing?*
“Are you two together?”
“What?” Haikong leaned forward, eyes wide, disbelief written all over his face. “How did you come to that conclusion?”
“Then what are you doing here?”
“The boss organized a gathering and sent us out to buy ingredients… I have to say, your guesses are way off.” Haikong gave Seraphina a thumbs up.
He had anticipated Seraphina might ask, but he never expected her question to be so absurd.
“Gathering?” That suddenly piqued Felicia’s interest.
“Oh? You want to come too?” Haikong asked.
“Can I come?”
“Wait, let me ask.” Haikong took out his phone, apparently messaging Anka.
After a moment, Anka replied.
Haikong looked at the reply and said to the two, “The boss says you can come if you want.”
“We don’t need to chip in for the ingredients?” Seraphina posed another oddly logical question.
“…We’re not that short on cash, thanks.”
With Seraphina and Felicia joining, the duo of Haikong and Yun Que officially became a quartet. Disagreements arose while buying ingredients.
“Why are you buying so much meat? Anyone would think we’re having a barbecue tonight.” Haikong complained.
“I like it. Do you have any other problems?” Seraphina raised an eyebrow.
“No.” Haikong shut up.
Felicia said she didn’t have much to pick, since Seraphina had already chosen what she wanted to eat.
Yun Que picked some vegetables, along with a few blocks of tofu and fish. No telling what she planned to make.
As for Haikong… he bought several packs of cigarettes and a large bottle of liquor.
“How many years has it been with that lung cancer?” Yun Que suddenly asked.
“Can’t you wish me well for once?” Haikong’s eyes practically rolled to the back of his head.
In the end, the quartet each bought their own items, along with whatever Anka had requested, and arrived at the group’s base—a flower shop called “Dawn.”
“What a weird name… I can’t see how this is supposed to sound like a flower shop.” Felicia commented.
“That’s because you don’t appreciate it.” Haikong retorted.
He then turned to Yun Que: “Yun Que, what do you think?”
“I think Felicia is right.” Yun Que sided with Felicia.
“I agree.” Seraphina also chimed in.
Three to one. Haikong was utterly defeated!
“I have nothing to say.” Haikong walked up and knocked on the door.
They waited for a while, but no one answered.
“What’s going on inside?” Haikong wondered.
“Don’t you have a key?” Seraphina stepped forward.
“I really don’t…” Haikong scratched his head. “Left in a hurry and forgot. But I remember the boss and Wumi were both in the shop?”
“We’ll find out soon enough.” Seraphina lifted her leg.
“What are you doing?” Haikong sensed trouble and tried to stop her.
But Haikong was a step too slow.
*BANG!*
The door was kicked open by Seraphina in one strike. Given the damage, repair was out of the question; they’d have to buy a new door.
“I offer my condolences. Amen.” Felicia prayed for the deceased wooden door.
“The door I spent thousands on decorating…” Haikong muttered to himself.
“It’s just a door. What’s the big deal?” Yun Que asked.
“This ‘just a door’ cost over seven thousand crystals—more than your monthly salary.”
“Is it too late to take back what I just said?” Yun Que waved her hand.
“What’s that smell?” Seraphina caught a faint burnt odor in the air.
“I don’t know. It seems to be coming from the kitchen.” Felicia looked toward the kitchen.
Haikong seemed to realize something and dashed toward the kitchen.
Yun Que snapped out of it and followed him in a panic.
“What’s wrong with them?” Felicia asked.
“No idea… but we should check it out too.” Seraphina said.
“Mm.” Felicia nodded.
So Seraphina pulled Felicia along at a leisurely pace.
But by the time the four of them arrived, everything was already settled…
The kitchen was filled with the smell of burning, and an explosion had occurred. Anka was squatting nearby, calmly sipping tea, while Wumi tried to salvage the ruined pot. On the floor lay a piece of “charcoal”—presumably a person.
“Ah, we’re too late.” The light in Haikong’s eyes dimmed.
“It’s all over.” Yun Que also looked lost and hopeless.
“Boss, why didn’t you keep an eye on them? You knew full well that Wumi is a natural disaster in the kitchen!” Haikong grabbed Anka by the shoulders and shook him violently, almost rattling his brains.
“Stop, stop, stop… If you keep shaking me, I’m going to die.” Anka quickly pushed Haikong away. “I couldn’t help it. By the time I realized Yvonne and Wumi had gone into the kitchen, it was already too late.”
“Looks like the gathering is over.” Felicia stood outside the door and said.
“Seems that way.” Seraphina agreed.
