Chapter 37: The True Sight Eye and the Dimensional Assassin

“If you are Haikong, then you must be Wumi,” Seraphina remarked, her gaze fixed on Wumi. “I’ve heard tales of you two being inseparable, partners for centuries.”

“Within the Tribunal, there are many partners. However, most either go their separate ways or perish during missions. A partnership like yours, spanning hundreds of years, is truly a rare sight even within the Tribunal.”

“Ha, I never expected someone like me to catch the Young Lady’s eye,” Wumi mused, stepping forward.

“Do you mind if I light a cigarette?”

“Do as you wish,” Seraphina replied.

“Alright then.” Wumi retrieved a cigarette from their coat pocket, lit it with a flicker of magic, and began to smoke, seemingly lost in their own world.

“I find you quite memorable. It’s said your eyes can perceive the past, the hearts of others, and even the future,” Seraphina continued. “Are these rumors true, O True Sight Eye?”

True Sight Eye, Wumi.

This was both her ability and her title.

Legend claimed these eyes could peer into the past, delve into the human heart, and even glimpse the future, discerning an opponent’s every thought.

“Are the rumors… Hey, whoa!”

Before Wumi could finish speaking, Seraphina’s sword lashed out.

Seraphina’s speed was akin to lightning, yet Wumi merely took a subtle step back, effortlessly evading the swift attack.

“…” Seraphina retracted her sword, standing her ground as she replayed Wumi’s earlier move in her mind.

A premonition? No, that wasn’t quite right.

Seraphina was a warrior who had fought thousands, if not tens of thousands, of battles. Her combat experience was vast; her attacks were not something an ordinary person could possibly anticipate.

“You truly can see the future. To be honest, I’m quite curious why someone with your ability exists in this world. It seems almost too powerful, doesn’t it?”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, I’m merely a non-combatant,” Wumi said, spreading their hands. “And even seeing the future, no matter how potent, has its limits.”

Haikong had already appeared beside Wumi, twin daggers clutched in his hands, his gaze fixed intently on Seraphina.

“What, are you making a move?” Seraphina didn’t seem tense. “Is this your decision, or…”

As she spoke, Seraphina glanced at Anka, who stood behind the two.

Anka remained silent, simply closing her eyes gently.

“Very well. It seems I must defeat your two hounds before I can get you to speak,” Seraphina declared, drawing Thunder Leap.

“Already time for a fight? Boss, if we get beaten half to death, remember to cover our medical expenses!” Haikong turned his head to Anka.

Anka still offered no reply.

“The boss agreed.”

“She didn’t say anything, how do you know she agreed?” Seraphina asked, a hint of confusion in her voice.

“That’s what you call unspoken understanding,” Haikong declared, vanishing from his spot.

Seraphina, however, merely raised Thunder Leap behind her, blocking Haikong’s sudden strike.

“Remarkably keen instincts,” Haikong praised. “One couldn’t possess such intuition without having faced countless trials of life and death.”

“I had assumed you were a hothouse flower, yet it seems you are also a seasoned warrior.”

“The war hadn’t ended just a few years ago, you know.” Seraphina countered with a backhand slash, but it met empty air; Haikong had already seized the opportunity to retreat.

“Dimensional Hunt: Sky Patrol.” Four Haikongs materialized around Seraphina, appearing before, behind, to her left, and to her right, all brandishing their daggers.

In a mere instant, the Haikong from a single direction unleashed thousands of attacks.

“…” Seraphina knew Haikong’s ability was linked to dimensions.

While dimensions weren’t strictly space-related, they could disrupt space. If Seraphina attempted to escape using spatial movement, the consequence would be falling into a spatial乱流, being teleported randomly to some unknown place, or even another world.

Thus, she had no choice but to endure.

“Summon Lightning.” Golden lightning crackled around Thunder Leap in Seraphina’s hand. With a single swing, three of Haikong’s phantoms were shattered to dust.

The real Haikong, however, seemed to have anticipated Seraphina’s movements, dodging her attack.

“Dimensional Hunt: Decapitation.” Haikong thrust his dagger, aiming directly for Seraphina’s throat.

“I say, let’s put an end to these little assassination tricks, shall we?” Seraphina reached out, seizing Haikong’s right arm, and slammed him violently to the ground.

…Or so it should have been. Yet, she felt no tangible form.

“Tsk, this woman is truly troublesome.” Haikong had already returned to Wumi’s side.

“So that’s how it is,” Seraphina said, raising Thunder Leap and pointing it at Wumi, who stood behind Haikong.

“You used your True Sight Eye to discern my movements, then communicated them to Haikong through some special means, allowing him to prepare in advance, correct?”

“One who sees the future, and one who hides in shadows. Such a combination is indeed formidable.”

“If the Young Lady wishes to play, I’d be happy to continue,” Haikong said, toying with his dagger.

“Dimensional Hunt: Dis…”

“Stop,” Anka suddenly commanded.

“Since the boss has spoken, a subordinate must be sensible. I concede.” Haikong put away his weapons, and his previously surging killing intent vanished, as if it had never existed.

“Allow me to answer your questions.”

Anka stepped forward, directly facing Seraphina, while Haikong and Wumi retreated behind her.

“To your first question, yes, I did instruct them to engage,” Anka stated.

“Why?”

“A year ago, you interfered with the Tribunal’s enforcement, killing a Flower-rank operative and three Wind-rank operatives. Although the Tribunal did not pursue the matter, consider it my personal grievance, as they were my subordinates.”

“So, after your two personal attendants failed, you, the boss, are now going to act personally?”

“Hey, hey, hey, Young Lady, you can’t say that,” Haikong retorted. “The battle isn’t over yet; it’s still uncertain who will emerge victorious.”

“So you wish to fight to the bitter end?” Seraphina narrowed her eyes. “Dimensional Assassin, Haikong, seventy years ago you assassinated my Morningstar family’s former patriarch and a host of high-ranking officials. Do you wish to settle that score as well?”

“…” Haikong fell silent.

“Of course, I won’t make a move. This was merely a test for you,” Anka explained. “You are exceptional; in time, you will surely reach my level. Therefore, rather than becoming adversaries, I’d prefer to cooperate with you.”

“No need. I have no desire to cooperate with you madmen from the Execution Court.” Seraphina turned and departed.

“So what exactly was she here for? Why would the future head of the Morningstar family bother coming to such a small place if she had nothing to do?” Haikong asked, bewildered, after Seraphina had left.

“Looking for a cat,” Wumi replied. “In the future I saw, before you uttered that provocative remark, that was her answer.”

“Hmph, what kind of cat could she be looking for for so long? Are you sure she wasn’t just making up an excuse to fool us and the boss?” Haikong was unconvinced.

“Perhaps it wasn’t truly a cat, but there’s no need to dwell on it too much. After all, it doesn’t concern you or me.” Wumi stretched languidly.

“To think that merely acting on the Grand Inquisitor’s orders, collecting cannon fodder… ah, no, talent, from various places, would lead to such an encounter.”
