Chapter 44: Is it funny that the big black bear got shot by the maid?

Discovering that the massive black bear she was controlling had been defeated by little Charlotte, Chloe, who was frozen and immobilized inside the giant ice crystal, burst into a furious internal rage.

She had intended to control the black bear to capture little Charlotte and forcibly break the memory seal that Master Rhynes had implanted in her head. But unexpectedly, little Charlotte was completely uncooperative. She couldn’t catch her no matter how hard she tried. Desperate, she had been forced to use the Binding Magic through the black bear’s body.

Because she was encased in the giant ice crystal, the magical power Chloe could use was minuscule. She had to be extremely calculated with any spell she used.

Yet, just when she thought the plan was foolproof, little Charlotte suddenly dispatched the black bear she was controlling with a perfectly timed spark of fire.

‘Ceasefire! You’re attacking a friendly!’

The internally raging Chloe wanted to instantly teleport to little Charlotte’s face, grab her by the ear, and scream at her.

Unfortunately, her internal rage couldn’t melt the giant ice crystal confining her.

‘Damn it! If this continues, Charlotte won’t regain her memory, and the day I escape will be pushed further into the distant future.’

Thinking this, Chloe didn’t care about the consequences and injected all her remaining magical power into the black bear.

‘The fate of everything rests on this one gamble!’

On the other side, little Charlotte was equally shocked after seeing the black bear she had just defeated instantly spring back up.

“Did I do that? Can I really use magic?”

She looked at the magic wand in her hand. It was supposed to be a simple, ordinary branch, but just a moment ago, a current seemed to have shot through her body, and the branch instantly transformed into such an exquisite wand.

‘Does this mean I’m actually a magical genius? Can I teach myself without anyone’s guidance?’

At this thought, little Charlotte’s heart swelled with joy.

However, just as she relaxed slightly, she suddenly noticed a large cloud of black energy surging into the body of the black bear that had just been defeated.

In no time, the black bear was completely revitalized, climbing back up from the ground and letting out a deafening roar.

The large hole little Charlotte had pierced through its body was somehow completely healed, which utterly shocked little Charlotte.

“What? It’s still coming?”

Little Charlotte was startled and quickly raised her wand, preparing to attack again. But then she suddenly noticed that the black bear’s body looked much larger than before.

It stood before little Charlotte like a WarGreymon.

The shadow of the gigantic black bear loomed over little Charlotte’s horrified face.

“It’s so big, someone is definitely going to die!”

Little Charlotte was so terrified by the gigantic black bear that she collapsed to the ground, unable to move. She could only watch helplessly as the giant bear lumbered toward her.

Just as the gigantic black bear reached out its claw to grab little Charlotte, a black curtain suddenly appeared, completely separating little Charlotte from the bear.

More than one black curtain appeared; the same-sized black curtains simultaneously appeared to the front, back, left, right, and above the gigantic black bear, encasing it like a giant coffin.

Then, after a brief silence, the black curtains suddenly dissipated like smoke. The gigantic black bear, which had been full of vitality moments before, lay on the ground, wounded and utterly defeated. Its size had reverted to its original form.

Little Charlotte stared at the scene in front of her in astonishment. It wasn’t until the bear collapsed that she noticed an orange-haired maid had appeared in front of her, holding a wand pointed forward, coldly staring at the bear’s corpse, as if she had already decided what they were having for dinner.

“Sister Shiro!” Seeing the familiar figure, little Charlotte cried out in surprise.

“Miss Charlotte, are you hurt?” Mashiro asked without turning her head.

“No, I’m fine. But what about that child, Ula-la…”

“Miss Shaula has been safely sent back to the mansion.”

“Is that so? Then I’m relieved.” Little Charlotte could finally relax. “Sister Shiro, thank you so much! If it weren’t for you, that big black bear might have eaten me! By the way, Sister Shiro, I didn’t know you could use magic…”

Hearing this, Mashiro, who had been about to check the surroundings for further danger, suddenly froze.

She slowly turned around. Seeing the magic wand in Charlotte’s hand, a sudden alarm went off in her mind.

There were still scorch marks on the nearby tree trunk. Clearly, someone else besides the black bear had used magic here.

Undoubtedly, that person was little Charlotte.

Logically, she shouldn’t have been able to use magic. Could she have recovered her memory?

Thinking this, Mashiro’s expression turned cold. She walked toward little Charlotte, simultaneously raising her wand and pointing it in Charlotte’s direction, muttering an incantation.

“Oh, spirits of ice, I call upon you in the name of the eternal winter…”

“Eh? Sister Shiro? What are you doing?” Little Charlotte was bewildered by the sight.

But Mashiro paid no attention to little Charlotte and continued chanting the spell.

“…Freeze everything in sight—Ocean of Absolute Zero!”

Instantly, large patches of ice erupted from the ground beneath little Charlotte. If little Charlotte hadn’t realized Shiro was acting strangely and leaped backward, she would have been frozen into an ice sculpture by Sister Shiro on the spot.

“Sister Shiro, what are you doing? I’m not your enemy!” little Charlotte asked, full of confusion.

Seeing her magic miss, Mashiro clicked her tongue in annoyance.

“Tsk, was the incantation still too long?”

It had to be said that this was a common flaw among all witches: often missing opportunities because the chanting time was too long.

Mashiro was no exception. She couldn’t escape the rule that she couldn’t cast the corresponding spell without completing the incantation.

However, Senior Disciple Chloe could break the rule. By using the ability of high-speed casting, she greatly shortened the chanting time, which was practically cheating.

Seeing Mashiro’s attitude, little Charlotte realized that the maid was doing this on purpose, intentionally using magic to target her. She wouldn’t stop until she had defeated her.

‘Hey, hey, are you kidding me? I couldn’t even defeat the big black bear just now. Now you want me to fight an orange-haired maid who’s even scarier than the black bear? Me fighting Shiro? Seriously?’

Realizing this, little Charlotte’s face turned bitter.

Mashiro, in contrast, looked completely at ease. She raised her wand again and aimed it at little Charlotte.

“Don’t worry, Miss Charlotte. With my help, you’ll soon forget that you can use magic!”
