Chapter 192: Is it really that funny to ripen mushrooms using magic?

It was hard to imagine that Charlotte and Elsa, two top-tier students of the Starsea Magic Academy, would actually come to blows over a tiny mushroom.

After all, neither of them expected the target of their search to be a mere small mushroom. Since there was only one mushroom here, that meant only one of them could take it back to pass the promotion exam. The other would be forced to search elsewhere, or worse, fail to find one at all, becoming a shameful student held back for another year.

With their futures on the line, they wagered everything on this match, engaging in a duel as fierce as bulls fighting for breeding rights.

I’m timid against the enemy, but I go all-out against my own teammate.

As Charlotte’s rival of four years, Elsa knew all too well that if she relied solely on magic, she could never be Charlotte’s match.

Because Charlotte didn’t need a wand or incantations; she could skip all the tedious steps and manifest the final result of the magic directly.

Her casting speed was always a step ahead; she would always be at a disadvantage if she relied only on magic.

But that didn’t mean Elsa was helpless. She had a domain where she was more proficient than Charlotte.

That was swordsmanship.

When she was little, while Sister Alice was training under Master Rhynes, she had watched for a long time. Over time, she had mastered a portion of swordsmanship. Although it couldn’t compare to Sister Alice’s, if she fused it with her specialty—Ice Magic—she was confident she wouldn’t easily lose to her sister.

After being driven back repeatedly by Charlotte’s magic, Elsa realized that these minor skirmishes wouldn’t decide the outcome. If she wanted to make Charlotte truly accept defeat and go look for another mushroom, she had to pull out her ultimate trump card.

“Then I’ll show you my ultimate technique!”

Saying this, Elsa raised her giant ice sword toward the sky, channeling all her magical power into it. Instantly, the temperature on the blade plummeted, and the air around it rapidly condensed into ice, extending toward Elsa’s elbow.

Elsa, however, showed no fear, letting the frost spread across her body.

As a biting cold wind blew, Charlotte was astonished to see an ice phoenix manifest behind Elsa, like some kind of avatar. Elsa’s right hand was covered by a phoenix claw made of ice, and she gripped the giant sword tightly with it.

It looked as if Elsa had become a mecha pilot.

“This is my ultimate technique—Instant Frost Horizon! Charlotte, if you don’t want to get beaten into a pulp, you’d better surrender now!”

Seeing Elsa suddenly “power up” like this, Charlotte couldn’t help but break into a cold sweat, but then she let out a cold laugh.

“Hmph, you want me to surrender? Don’t joke around! Do you think you’re the only one with an ultimate move hidden up your sleeve?”

“You’re truly stubborn to the very end!”

Elsa stomped her foot, and instantly, the entire battlefield was covered in a thick layer of solid ice.

Fortunately, Charlotte had taken flight beforehand, so her feet weren’t frozen to the ground.

“Let me show you the power of Instant Frost Horizon!”

Clad in her ice phoenix mantle, Elsa swung the giant ice sword and charged toward Charlotte.

Because the entire battlefield was covered in solid ice, Elsa’s speed as she slid across it was exceptionally fast.

Charlotte, seeing this, raised her right hand. Instantly, a scorching heat erupted from her palm, and the rain in the air was evaporated into nothingness by the sheer intensity of the heat.

Since she had learned that using Fire magic could pierce through the dragon’s scales, Charlotte was fired up, pulling out her newly learned special-grade Fire spell—Insta-Kill Flame Spear.

Without hesitation, she hurled the flame spear toward the oncoming Elsa.

In an instant, the boundary between ice and fire collapsed on a grand scale. The solid ice covering the entire battlefield was shattered into pieces by the heat rising from the ground, and even the mist surrounding them was blown away, vanished into thin air.

The wild energy of red and blue clashed fiercely, as if the heavens and earth had lost their color.

Under the fierce collision of their two ultimate moves, a powerful shockwave spread outward, sweeping away all the dense fog in the forest.

After a brief silence, the world returned to peace.

The two, both utterly exhausted, lay face down on the ground, as if they were performing a wedding bow to each other.

“Damn it! To think your Ice Phoenix was this sturdy! My Flame Spear didn’t even break your defense…”

“Your Flame Spear is the real freak! With such high temperatures, how do you hold it in your hand and throw it? Can you not feel the heat at all?”

After complaining to each other, both were stirred by their competitive spirit. They struggled to climb up from the ground, preparing for a second round.

However, just then, they suddenly noticed that the small mushroom under the large tree not far away had become much thicker than before.

“Eh? Am I seeing things? Did that small mushroom get much bigger?”

“Does this thing really grow that fast? If so, it wouldn’t be so rare.”

After squatting by the mushroom and exchanging glances, the two suddenly widened their eyes in shock.

‘Could it be…’

As if realizing something, Charlotte and Elsa simultaneously extended their hands and injected magical power into the small mushroom.

With the continuous injection of magical power, the mushroom gradually swelled, growing larger and larger, expanding beyond their wildest imagination.

“Um, if it grows like this, it should be enough for both of us to turn in for the exam, right!”

A powerful shockwave instantly swept away the thick fog throughout the forest. The witches, who had been groping about like blind people in the mist, were suddenly astonished to find their vision cleared.

“Eh? What happened?”

Everyone looked at each other, completely baffled by what had transpired.

However, since the fog had been swept away, their speed in searching for the items became much faster.

Realizing they were now in a race against time, the many witches frantically flew around the forest on their magic broomsticks.

However, just as everyone was busy with their search, someone suddenly shouted at the top of their lungs:

“Look! Those two have already come out!”

The gaze of the many witches instantly converged on Charlotte and Elsa, who were working together to carry an abnormally massive giant mushroom.

Seeing this, everyone’s eyes widened in shock.

“What on earth is that thing? Am I seeing things? Does a mushroom this big really exist in this world?”

“Hey, the thing they’re carrying—could it be the item we’re supposed to find?”

“We can’t let them pass the exam easily! Everyone, come and stop them!”
