Ultimately, Charlotte’s dream of sweeping all seven opponents was shattered; she had slammed headfirst into the iron wall that was Yoruya and was forced to retreat from the kendo stage.
However, even though she was defeated by Yoruya, the other members of the Kendo Club didn’t hold any grievances against Charlotte; on the contrary, she received their enthusiastic praise.
“Wow, Kanon is too amazing, actually taking out six people in a row! Now we don’t even know how we could possibly lose.”
“Yeah, yeah, they only have one person left. Winning against her will be a piece of cake!”
“It looks like the third-rank position should be given to Kanon-chan.”
“No, no, I’m not that incredible! I just felt that as a member of the Kendo Club, I should do my part in such a moment of crisis.”
Charlotte responded to the praise with a humble expression.
However, not everyone was giving Charlotte an excited, friendly look.
Seeing the dissatisfied expression on Yukina’s face, Charlotte paused for a moment, then lowered her head guiltily.
“Sorry, Yukina, your big brother didn’t beat that person who scared you yesterday.”
“Eh?” Yukina looked surprised; Charlotte’s words were clearly unexpected.
“That girl is the one who made you feel terrified yesterday, right? I confirmed it the moment I saw her eyes. Unfortunately, your brother’s swordsmanship is too trash, so I couldn’t use normal means to give her a proper lesson. You won’t blame me, will you, Yukina?”
Realizing that Charlotte had fought fiercely with Yoruya for her sake, Yukina sighed softly.
“Didn’t I already tell you I was fine? You didn’t need to worry, brother. I can handle my own affairs.”
‘It hadn’t reached the point where I needed my brother to intervene.’
“Is that so? Then I won’t worry anymore.” Charlotte walked away from Yukina with a smile, intending to head toward Zhong Shuixi and Huangquan Ai.
However, Yukina suddenly grabbed Charlotte by the back of her collar.
“Wait a minute. Is that the extent of your self-reflection, brother?”
“Eh?” Charlotte turned her head back innocently. Looking at her expression, she really seemed to have no idea what else she had done wrong.
“Going up onto the stage alone without discussing it with me beforehand and making such a huge scene by taking out six people in a row… are you trying to attract all the attention to yourself?”
Yukina complained while rapidly striking Charlotte’s head with a hand-chop, like a monk rhythmically hitting a wooden fish.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Yukina, I was wrong! I won’t do it again!”
Like a kitten that had made a mistake, Charlotte could only raise both hands to cover her head, begging Yukina to stop.
“Also, did you secretly use magic? How else could you have taken out so many people in one go?”
“No, no! How could I use magic to cheat and ruin Yukina’s battle experience?”
“Really?”
Under Yukina’s repeated interrogation, Charlotte finally confessed the truth.
“I just used a tiny bit of enhancement magic to increase my movement speed, that’s all!”
In the end, Charlotte was still severely scolded by Yukina.
“Honestly, can’t you just stop doing things that make me worry, brother?”
Sitting back in her seat, Yukina complained about her troublesome brother while turning her gaze back to the arena.
Because of Charlotte’s consecutive victories, their battle plan had already factored in Yukina’s winning streak. In other words, even if Yukina lost this round, they could still win the overall match points, though the victory wouldn’t be as decisive.
Therefore, Yukina only needed to maintain her streak in the upcoming matches. Conversely, the opponents Charlotte would have faced next would have been quite strong due to the sheer number of previous wins.
The team had reverted to the original order, letting Yukina, their ace, appear as the final fighter, while the others were responsible for exhausting the opponent’s stamina to give Yukina the best chance of winning.
Since that girl was the final fighter for the other side, her strength was likely the greatest of them all.
Yukina had warned her other teammates beforehand to be extremely careful.
These companions hadn’t become overconfident or complacent because of Charlotte’s winning streak.
However, even while wearing full protective gear and acting with caution, none of them were a match for Yoruya.
In no time at all, the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth teammates on their side were all eliminated by Yoruya with a single strike to their vitals; they couldn’t even buy any time.
“No way!” Seeing that she was the only one left, Yukina couldn’t help but exclaim.
In terms of clearing out small fries, Yoruya’s speed was much faster than Charlotte’s had been.
While Charlotte was twisting and turning to evade attacks, Yoruya simply seized the opponent’s weakness and delivered an instant-kill.
The atmosphere in the Kendo Club became incredibly heavy again; the earlier momentum of having victory in their grasp had vanished, even though Yukina hadn’t even stepped up yet.
To be honest, Yukina felt anxious. The pressure on them was already immense. She didn’t even want to imagine what would happen if she accidentally lost the match.
“Is it my turn next?” Yukina stood up and spoke to the dejected crowd. “Don’t worry. Leave the rest to me! Our Kendo Club won’t lose!”
Following that, Yukina picked up her wooden sword and walked onto the platform with a solemn expression to face Yoruya.
However, perhaps due to extreme nervousness, Yukina felt her legs go soft and her vision blur the moment she stepped onto the stage. It was then that she realized with horror that she had forgotten to put on her most important protective gear.
Without the protection of the armor, even a slight hit from a wooden sword would be agonizingly painful.
She didn’t have the luxury of Charlotte’s ability to dodge at will. If she were stabbed by the opponent, the unimaginable pain would be more than she could bear.
However, since she had already stepped onto the platform, there was no turning back.
The opponent had the resolve to discard their defense, so she couldn’t afford to lose to them.
“Come! I won’t be afraid of you this time!”
Yukina raised her wooden sword and pointed it straight at Yoruya, her eyes filled with the determination to settle things once and for all.
Hearing Yukina’s pre-battle declaration, Yoruya paused for a moment.
“This time?” She was confused for only an instant before realizing what Yukina meant.
“Oh? So you’ve seen it before? Heheh, then allow me to make you feel even more afraid!”
Yoruya stopped pretending, and a murderous look shot from her eyes toward Yukina.
Her red pupils were like a blood moon hanging over a dark castle; an unprecedented sense of crisis surged as the moon turned red.
Seeing that gaze, Yukina instinctively took a small step back, her consciousness nearly captured by that blood-moon-lit dark castle.
Fortunately, Yukina had already experienced this fear before.
With that experience, she quickly broke free from the suppression of fear, letting her consciousness return to reality.
But she was still a step too late.
Yoruya had already launched a surprise attack, and Yukina was forced to raise her wooden sword in a hasty response.
