Chapter 143: Is it funny that she suddenly turned into a catgirl?

“Honestly, that Charlotte, does she really think I can’t complete this commission by myself? It’s just a simple investigation! Watch me, Detective Elsa, sniff out the mastermind on the spot!”

Elsa walked along the busy street, mentally deducing the details of her current commission.

Tsumuguri City was home not only to the witches of the Starsea Magic Academy perched atop the mountain but also to vendors from all over the world. Even some wealthy people came to this city full of witches for their health, so the streets were usually quite lively.

Because Tsumuguri City was where the Starsea Magic Academy was located, it was not under the jurisdiction of the Kingdom of York, the Kingdom of the Red Rose, or the Kingdom of the White Rose. Therefore, it was hailed by the people there as the capital of a Fourth Kingdom.

Nevertheless, this didn’t mean one could do whatever they wanted in the city; any violation of the laws would still be prosecuted by the Witch Association.

Elsa continued her walk down the busy street, lost in her deduction.

A few days ago, signs left by the Ice Wolf Clan suddenly appeared in a village near Tsumuguri City.

Generally, a race like the Ice Wolf Clan, which can only live in extremely cold regions, shouldn’t be able to appear near Tsumuguri City during the height of summer.

Most people would assume it was a misidentification. But if those signs were truly left by the Ice Wolf Clan, it meant there were hidden members of the clan lurking near the city.

Why would they secretly cross the Boundary Mountain Range to come near Tsumuguri City in the middle of summer? What was their goal?

Thinking this, Elsa looked up at the azure sky—no, to be precise, she was looking at the massive barrier overhead.

The incredibly strong barrier left by the first witch, Shera, was capable of withstanding the direct assault of an entire demon army. Even if Tsumuguri City were surrounded by a massive demon army, they wouldn’t be able to cross the barrier.

It was this protection that had allowed Tsumuguri City to remain safe for a millennium.

‘Could the Ice Wolf Clan’s goal be the barrier?’

It was true that if the barrier were destroyed, a demon army could easily invade the city. Even if all the witches from the Starsea Magic Academy were deployed, they couldn’t guarantee that no one would be harmed.

However, this barrier was incredibly difficult to destroy. The presidents of the Starsea Magic Academy for generations had repaired it every ten years to replenish the magical power lost to the passage of time.

Even if the Ice Wolf Clan’s combat power was exceptional, a small group of them wouldn’t be able to break through this massive barrier from the front.

‘How exactly do they plan to destroy this barrier?’

Just as Elsa was performing her “genius” deduction, she noticed that the people around her were looking at her strangely. They were staring at her with blank, rigid expressions, as if she were some kind of freakish anomaly.

“What? Haven’t you ever seen a witch in plain clothes?” Elsa wanted to roar at the rude crowd.

Her witch’s robe had been taken to be washed by Nicole. If Charlotte hadn’t suddenly crashed through her skylight while she was drinking black tea yesterday, scaring her so much she spilled tea on her robe, she wouldn’t be forced to wander around in this cute but completely unprotective little dress.

However, just as Elsa was about to vent her frustration on the offensive crowd, a figure suddenly rushed out from the side, grabbed her hand, and pulled her into a side alley. The figure pushed her hard against the wall and slammed their right hand against the wall next to her face, effectively trapping her.

“Hey! You’re being far too reckless! How can you just walk around in broad daylight like that? What if you’re discovered by a witch!”

Hearing these words, Elsa looked bewildered.

Her brain, which had just been immersed in its “genius” deduction, was suddenly overloaded by this new information. Elsa was momentarily paralyzed, unable to understand what this person who had dragged her into the alley wanted.

The person was wearing a black windbreaker that was easy to move in, and their head was tightly covered by a hat. But due to the close proximity, the person’s emerald-green eyes were clearly visible to Elsa.

Although the person’s head was tightly covered by the hat, Elsa could see through the gaps that a set of cat-ear bangs was pushing up the brim of the hat.

‘Wait, those don’t look like bangs.’

Besides that, something thin like a stick was swaying back and forth behind the person.

That was undoubtedly a cat tail.

‘Wait, don’t tell me…’

At this thought, Elsa didn’t say a word and simply flipped off the other person’s hat.

“Eh? What the hell are you doing?”

Although the other person immediately covered their head again, Elsa had clearly seen that the person had two furry cat ears on their head.

Without a doubt, the person before her was a black catgirl.

“My god! Catgirls actually exist in this world!”

Elsa couldn’t help but exclaim in wonder.

Hearing Elsa’s exclamation, the other party looked disdainful.

“What are you talking about? Aren’t you a catgirl yourself?”

“Huh?” Now it was Elsa’s turn to be bewildered. “I’m a catgirl too?”

The black catgirl pointed behind Elsa.

“Your tail is sticking out, and you still say you’re not a catgirl?”

Elsa quickly turned her head and, sure enough, saw a silvery-blue cat tail poking out from under her skirt, staring straight at her like it was looking at its master.

In disbelief, Elsa grabbed the tail. Instantly, an unprecedented sensation surged from near her tailbone.

“No way? This is my tail?”

Elsa tried to pull on the tail, but after several attempts, she couldn’t pull it off. Instead, the pulling caused a burning, stinging pain as if her backside were on fire.

‘This is definitely not a clip-on!’

Realizing this, Elsa looked completely incredulous.

“No, how is this possible? How could I grow such a strange tail?”

“Did you hit your head? Why do you act like you think you’re human? If you don’t believe me, here’s a mirror. Take a look for yourself.”

With that, the black catgirl handed Elsa a mirror.

Seeing the silver-blue-haired girl with two cat ears in the mirror, Elsa instinctively pointed at the reflection and laughed.

“Hahaha, a big white cat!”

But after a brief silence, Elsa belatedly realized that the “big white cat” was actually herself.

“No way! How did I suddenly turn into a catgirl?”
