Chapter 174: Is it funny to be abandoned by your master?

The bustling streets of the royal capital were packed with pedestrians from all over the country, and the noise echoed continuously from one end of the street to the other.

On this thriving thoroughfare, two lovely girls in witch’s robes stood before an accessory stall, meticulously choosing items.

The assortment of jewelry on the stall was varied; some were even inlaid with brilliant gemstones and looked quite expensive.

However, this was not Tsumuguri City, where witches were everywhere; these gemstones had no actual magical significance and served only as decoration.

Even so, the dazzling array of goods before them caught the attention of the two witches.

After browsing for a while, the black-haired witch’s eyes suddenly lit up, and she chose a silver crescent-shaped hair accessory to wear on her head.

She then turned to the silver-haired witch beside her.

“Mashiro, look at me! How do I look? This accessory suits me, doesn’t it?”

The silver-haired witch beside her only frowned slightly; she truly struggled to give a positive evaluation of the black-haired witch’s taste.

After all, beneath the silver crescent were two crossed swords.

Wearing such a strange-looking accessory made Mashiro think for a moment that her companion was a “Witch of Slaughter” who held the power of life and death.

“Senior Chloe, are you planning to change your profession to a mortician?” the silver-haired witch complained ruthlessly.

Without a doubt, these two were the disciples of the Mist Witch, Rhynes Lopesi: Chloe Luna and Mashiro Eve.

They had just passed the entrance exam for the Starsea Magic Academy.

As a reward, Master Rhynes who was originally attending a Mage exchange with Noelle had brought them along.

Upon arriving at the royal capital, Rhynes, who was supposed to attend the exchange, suddenly felt an impulse after hearing Mashiro’s casual complaint of “I really want to go for a stroll” and had ditched the meeting to take the two of them shopping.

While Chloe was feeling smug about her clever find, Mashiro was looking down at a teardrop-shaped necklace in the center of the stall.

This necklace, called “Tears of the Saint,” happened to fit her taste perfectly.

However, Mashiro hesitated to make a move on the necklace, as if she felt her current self was not yet worthy of owning the “Tears of the Saint.”

Seeing that Mashiro hadn’t chosen a hair accessory, Chloe picked out a cat-ear headband and unceremoniously slapped it onto Mashiro’s head.

“I think this cat-ear headband suits you perfectly, Mashiro! Now, give me a ‘meow’!”

“Senior, have you played enough? How could something like this possibly suit me!”

Chloe’s arbitrary choice of accessory naturally drew intense dissatisfaction from Mashiro, but Chloe didn’t seem to care at all.

“But you look adorable in that cat-ear headband, Mashiro. I don’t know what you’re so upset about. Don’t you agree, Master Rhynes?”

Saying this, Chloe turned her head, wanting to ask the blonde witch who had come shopping with them.

However, behind them was only the never-ending flow of the crowd. The blonde witch was nowhere to be seen.

“Eh? Master Rhynes?”

Chloe and Mashiro scanned their surroundings, only to realize that Master Rhynes, who had been shopping with them, had disappeared at some point.

“Master Rhynes is gone—so who’s going to pay for these hair accessories?”

While Chloe and Mashiro stared at each other in bewilderment, on the other side of the bustling street, a blonde witch was linking arms with an azure-haired boy, her eyes shining as she gazed at the incredibly prosperous streetscape.

“Wow, this is so lively!”

Undoubtedly, this blonde witch and the azure-haired boy beside her were Rhynes—who had abandoned Chloe and Mashiro—and Roland, the “tour guide” she had just snatched up.

As if seeing something interesting, Rhynes suddenly let go of Roland and ran quickly to a snack stall, pointing at the dazzling array of delicacies on display.

“I want this, this, and this!”

Seeing Rhynes so excited, Roland behind her couldn’t help but look helpless.

How had things turned out this way?

He had just been performing his routine patrol work when he happened to run into Rhynes, who was out shopping with her two cute disciples.

Upon seeing him, Rhynes’s eyes had immediately lit up, as if she had spotted a Pokémon she had always wanted to catch.

With a joyful expression, she had grabbed him, dumped her two adorable disciples on the spot, and willfully kidnapped him, forcing him to take her around the liveliest parts of the royal capital.

He had only had two chance encounters with Rhynes before; although Rhynes had helped him greatly during those two encounters, he didn’t feel he needed to become her familiar.

Besides, he still had his patrol work to continue. If he didn’t finish his routine patrol, he wouldn’t get his perfect attendance bonus this month.

“Um, Miss Rhynes…”

“Hmm? What is it? Do you want some too, Roland?”

Rhynes, who had already obtained a delicious pancake, turned her head toward him, some food residue still on her mouth, and asked with a look of curiosity.

“No…” Rhynes’s response left Roland utterly speechless. He wanted to say something else instead. “By the way, Miss Rhynes, why are you here in the royal capital?”

“Oh, that’s because I came here with Master Noelle to participate in some Mage exchange or something.”

“Huh? A Mage exchange?” Roland had heard of Mages.

Although there were very few men in the world who could use magic, every Mage was a top-tier existence; one Mage was worth ten official witches, showing just how powerful they were.

“Isn’t that a very important meeting? Is it really okay for you to be wandering around here, Miss Rhynes?”

Faced with Roland’s question, Rhynes looked completely unconcerned.

“What’s wrong with it? I’ve never been interested in those profound and mysterious magics anyway. After all, my reason for choosing to become a witch was just to enjoy all the beauty in this world to the fullest! Compared to the exchange, shopping here is obviously much more important!”

“No, that’s a bit…”

Rhynes’s reason for not attending the meeting was so ridiculous and beyond Roland’s expectations that he couldn’t help but feel a headache coming on.

He really had no idea what to do with this powerful yet extremely willful witch.

“Alright, alright, let’s stop dawdling here and hurry to the next place!”

After finishing her freshly bought snack, Rhynes licked her fingers clean and then linked her arm with Roland’s again, urging the royal capital guide to take her to their next target location.

“Wait, Miss Rhynes! Don’t be in such a hurry!”

After Rhynes and Roland left, in a nearby alley, a pair of eyes filled with intense hostility stared fixedly at them.
