Chapter 65: Why haven’t you Awakened?

As the plot progressed, Charlotte couldn’t help but stretch.

Generally, by this point, Yukina, who was beside her, should have been interjecting with a few sarcastic comments.

But for some reason, she had been exceptionally quiet since a moment ago.

Charlotte looked over in confusion and saw that her sister had fallen asleep on the sofa.

Seeing Yukina’s quiet and adorable sleeping face, numerous mischievous ideas to tease her sister sprang up in Charlotte’s mind.

“Heh heh, Yukina, you’re always the one bullying me. I guess it’s my turn now!”

Charlotte mustered her courage and gently pinched Yukina’s cheek.

She found that Yukina was in a deep sleep, showing no signs of waking up.

Charlotte grew bolder.

Yukina was only wrapped in a bath towel. Charlotte’s gaze naturally fell upon Yukina’s overly prominent chest.

“Seriously! What did you eat to grow so big, Yukina!”

Charlotte extended her two small hands, grabbed the edge of the bath towel, and gently pulled down.

Then, Charlotte realized that the bath towel was still tightly wrapped around Yukina, completely unmoving.

Instead, her two small hands were tightly grabbed by Yukina.

Charlotte looked closely and saw that Yukina was staring at her with a completely blank expression.

Now it was Charlotte’s turn to panic.

“Um… Yukina, you’re awake? Your big brother was just worried you might catch a cold, so I was kindly trying to cover you with a blanket! I definitely wasn’t trying to perv on your body!”

“Brother—brother, are you afraid of the dark?” For some reason, Yukina suddenly said this.

The bamboo sword flew into Yukina’s hand, and she immediately delivered a fierce beating to the lustful brother’s head.

“Serves you right, brother! You really were trying to scheme against me!”

“Yukina, Yukina! Stop hitting! Stop hitting! How could your big brother harbor any ill intentions toward you!”

In any case, after a delightful round of one-sided beating, the otherworld story for the night abruptly ended there.

The morning alarm suddenly went off beside her bed.

Charlotte, waking up disoriented, rubbed her eyes and sat up on the bed.

Looking at the alarm clock in her hand, which read 7:30, she yawned.

“What time is it? Who set my alarm to be this early?”

When she looked up again, she was startled to see Yukina, in her school uniform, with her backpack slung over her shoulder and her bamboo sword in hand, standing fully armed at the foot of her bed.

“Brother, you really did oversleep, didn’t you?” Yukina frowned, staring at Charlotte with her hands on her hips, clearly displeased.

“Eh? Yukina, what is this…” Seeing Yukina’s sudden stance, Charlotte was at a loss.

“As I thought, you forgot everything, brother! Today is Monday! It’s the day I have to go to school!”

“School? Eh? Doesn’t that mean we’re about to be late? Don’t panic, Yukina! Your big brother will fly you to school right away!” Saying this, Charlotte pulled a magic broomstick out from under the blanket.

However, Yukina immediately pressed down on Charlotte’s hand, stopping her from pulling out the broomstick.

“You don’t have to worry about it, brother!”

Saying this, Yukina straightened up and sighed softly.

“I figured you wouldn’t be able to wake up early, brother, so I prepared breakfast beforehand. I’m sorry, though. Your little sister can’t stay home and chat with you today! That’s how it is. Take good care of the house by yourself, brother!”

Yukina reached out and ruffled Charlotte’s head, completely messing up Charlotte’s hair.

Following that, Yukina left the room and walked out of the house, leaving Charlotte, the “empty-nest brother,” sitting alone on the bed in a daze.

“Eh? Is… is this what’s happening to me?”

Yukina rushed quickly down the road toward Yōkain Academy with her backpack slung over her shoulder.

The closer she got to the school, the more students in the same uniform she saw.

It had been days since she had seen her classmates. She had to admit, she felt a pang of nostalgia.

After all, she could write a full one hundred fifty thousand characters and still not fully describe everything that had happened over the last two or three days.

It felt as if two years had passed.

Nevertheless, the ordinary life she yearned for was still continuing, albeit with a magical twist.

Yukina walked toward the school, humming a tune.

However, just as she was about to enter the school gate, a short-haired boy wearing round glasses suddenly blocked her path.

“Yo! It’s been three days. Have you decided whether you’re going to join us?”

“Huh?” Yukina immediately looked disgusted, staring contemptuously at the guy who was blocking her way.

She couldn’t believe this guy was bothering her again.

Three days ago, this guy had inexplicably stopped her on her way to school, claiming she possessed an incredibly powerful “superpower.” If she joined their organization, which spent money recklessly, she could immediately awaken her power and become a powerful Esper.

At the time, Yukina had simply thought the guy had escaped from a nearby mental hospital and ignored him.

But now, he was back to bother her again.

“I’m sorry, but I have no intention of going crazy with you people. You should look for someone else!”

Saying this, Yukina walked around the boy, intending to continue toward the school in front of her.

However, at that moment, the boy suddenly said something completely inexplicable.

“If you don’t join us, your brother will have died in vain!”

“So what if he died in vain? It’s none of my business…”

Yukina replied casually without turning her head, but the next second, she suddenly realized something was wrong. She turned her head and stared at the boy with a look of astonishment.

“Wait a minute, who did you say?”

“Your worthless brother, Bai Shenxinghe, of course! Do you still naively believe that your brother just happened to be in a very ordinary car accident? Hmph, I might as well tell you: that car accident was orchestrated by us…”

“That car accident was orchestrated by us…”

However, before the boy could finish, a string of green text suddenly floated across his glasses.

[UNAWAKENED].

“Hmm? Unawakened?”

Seeing the green text, the boy paused. He quickly raised his hand and pressed the refresh button on his glasses frame, staring intently at Yukina. The same “UNAWAKENED” title still hung over Yukina’s head.

Instantly, the boy’s triumphant expression changed to disbelief.

“Wait a minute, why haven’t you awakened? How is that possible? I personally saw your brother get killed by the truck! After going through such a tragedy of life and death, you should have awakened no matter how much you try to hold back!”

The boy’s face filled with horror.

He backed away from Yukina as if she were a monster. Then, he suddenly turned and ran, quickly disappearing into an alley.

Leaning against the wall, he pulled out his phone and made a call.

—”Hello! It’s me! The person you wanted me to recruit hasn’t awakened at all! Are you sure you sent someone to kill her brother?”

—”What? The body has already been buried?”

—”Then how can she be acting like nothing happened?”

—”Could her brother have somehow been resurrected?”

—”Are you kidding me?”
