“My name is Charlotte. Charlotte Chartier. I am the most excellent disciple of Chloe Luna, the Night Witch. You must have heard of the Night Witch. She is a very powerful witch in this world, and I will become a witch as powerful as her! By the way, what is your name?”
After venting her emotions, the girl sat beside Charlotte, quietly eating the remaining half of the roasted fish.
Charlotte took the opportunity to try and gather some information through conversation.
However, no matter what Charlotte said, the girl remained completely silent, as if she were a mute.
This made Charlotte look troubled.
“Speaking of which, I didn’t expect that giant red dragon was actually you transformed. What kind of magic is that? It doesn’t seem to be an illusion at all. How exactly do you transform into something so large?”
“Uh… actually, I came here to look for an evil dragon about your size, but its color is blue. It’s been attacking the nearby village, preventing the villagers from having peace. I came here specifically to hunt that thing down. I just didn’t expect to run into you here. By the way, do you know anything about that blue evil dragon?”
Hearing Charlotte’s question, the girl fell silent. Her movement of eating the fish stopped, as if Charlotte’s question had touched a sensitive spot.
“If you don’t know it, that’s fine. I’ll just go look for it myself later.” Charlotte quickly retracted her question.
“He’s hunting me…” The girl paused for a moment, then quietly answered Charlotte’s question.
“What?” Since the girl’s voice was so small, Charlotte didn’t hear her clearly at first.
“My father, my mother, my friends, my companions… everyone close to me was killed by them. Only I survived…” Saying this, the girl’s tears began to flow again. “They all died protecting me. If it weren’t for me, they might not have died to protect me!”
The girl clenched her fists in frustration, regretting that she was the only one who survived.
Hearing the girl recount her tragic past, Charlotte felt that her questioning was somewhat insensitive.
She had never experienced a family tragedy like this. On the contrary, she had always lived a smooth and happy life, so she couldn’t truly understand the girl’s feelings at this moment.
‘But that doesn’t mean I can just stand by and do nothing.’
Thinking this, Charlotte was about to comfort the girl, who was overcome with sadness and self-blame.
However, at that moment, a powerful magical pressure suddenly erupted from her body.
Instantly, the surrounding mountains were torn apart like foam, and the dim sky was completely exposed above them.
“So you were hiding in a place like this? You certainly made me search for you!”
A male voice, filled with malice, came from behind them.
Charlotte turned her head and saw a blue-haired man who looked very much like Dan Heng, standing arrogantly on a nearby, unbroken stone pillar, staring at them.
The man had two thick dragon horns growing out of his forehead and clearly did not look like a normal human.
Seeing the man’s appearance, the girl’s face instantly filled with horror.
“That’s him… he’s the one who’s been chasing me!”
“Oh? You’re all healed up after a brief moment? You recovered so quickly? It looks like I don’t need to hold back anymore. I can go all out and utterly annihilate you like crushing an ant!”
Saying this, the man charged fiercely toward the girl.
However, the moment the words left his mouth, a fireball appeared out of thin air. Like a soccer ball kicked in mid-air, it slammed directly into the man’s face, knocking him off the stone pillar and sending him plummeting into a pile of broken rocks below.
“What is this guy talking about?” Charlotte tilted her head, confused.
She was very annoyed that she was completely ignored.
Two seconds later, the man leaped out of the rubble, landing ten paces away from Charlotte.
Clearly, a simple fireball spell wasn’t enough to seriously injure this guy.
“Hey, you bastard! You dared to make me fall headfirst! You’ve got some nerve, human!”
However, being ignored by the person she had attacked with a simple spell was utterly humiliating to the man, like being tormented by the Valley of Time.
“Human?!” Hearing the man’s words, Charlotte was slightly stunned, unable to understand why he would say that. “Aren’t you human?”
“I am not a despicable human like you! I am the strongest Knight Captain of the Blue Dragon Clan! Don’t you know that the person you’re protecting isn’t human either? She is the sole surviving Princess of the Red Dragon Clan! She is your enemy, human! Are you still going to protect her?”
The man’s words stabbed the girl’s heart like a thorn, and her face filled with panic.
If Charlotte knew she was their human enemy, she might abandon her or even turn against her. If that happened, she would truly be plunged into despair.
However, upon hearing the man’s words, Charlotte didn’t look shocked. Instead, she frowned slightly, staring at the man with an expression that said, “So what?”
“I don’t care if she’s a demon or not! All I know is that she’s been through a terrible tragedy, and you’re the one who inflicted that tragedy upon her! As the most excellent disciple of the Night Witch, I can’t just stand by and do nothing! Besides, you’ve caused a lot of trouble for the nearby villagers! I have to settle the score with you!”
Seeing that the witch before him didn’t flinch at the fact that she was protecting a demon, but instead stood even more firmly in front of her, a look of confusion flashed across the man’s face.
“You bastard! If you insist on interfering, then I won’t hold back! I’ll show you the power of the strongest Knight Captain of the Blue Dragon Clan!”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the man suddenly flashed in front of Charlotte and stomped his foot, causing the ground within a ten-meter radius to crack. A large cloud of dust billowed up.
After destroying the ground, he was about to continue his attack on Charlotte. However, he suddenly realized that Charlotte and the girl beside her had vanished.
He quickly looked up and saw Charlotte holding the girl, already airborne.
“Hmph, where do you think you’re going!”
He was about to jump into the air and continue the chase when five black curtains suddenly appeared around him and above him, encasing him like a black coffin.
“What?!”
Countless magical energies, like blades, violently tore through his body.
Hot blood splattered all over the black curtains.
This was the special-grade spell ‘Black Coffin’ that she had secretly learned from Sister Shiro, used to suppress this man.
However, after Charlotte flew to a nearby hillside with the girl, she felt that the man, far from being injured by the suppression, was becoming even more ferocious.
If she had fought the man directly just now, no matter how hard she tried, the girl would have inevitably been caught in the crossfire.
So, Charlotte brought the girl to this relatively safe location.
“Alright, it should be safe enough here. Don’t worry, I won’t let that guy hurt you anymore!”
“Sister Witch…” Tears welled up in the girl’s eyes.
Her heart was filled with guilt, and she didn’t know what to say.
She had thought Charlotte would abandon her after learning her true identity. She hadn’t expected Charlotte to ignore the age-old enmity between humans and demons and save her.
This long-lost affection deeply moved the girl.
She was about to thank Charlotte when a bolt of lightning suddenly burst from the distant clouds and struck the Black Coffin suppressing the man below.
After a brief silence, a claw covered in azure scales shattered all the black curtains surrounding the man, as if smashing glass.
When the black curtains dissipated, Charlotte was shocked to find that the man had been replaced by a massive Blue evil dragon.
Golden-yellow dragon eyes glared with fierce murderous intent, directly focused on Charlotte.
It seemed theblue evil dragon was the transformation of the man from before.
“It looks like dealing with him won’t be easy!”
Charlotte was about to continue the fight when the girl suddenly called out to her.
“Sister Witch, that’s enough! I’m already so grateful for your help, but if you continue, you’ll surely die! That guy is too strong. No matter how powerful you are, you won’t be his match! So…”
Before the girl could finish, Charlotte raised her hand and pressed a finger to the girl’s lips.
“Don’t say those words of surrender! If you keep running away, you’ll never reach the bright future that awaits you! I believe all your companions who sacrificed themselves for you wanted you to have a happy future! So, you absolutely cannot run away anymore! A hero doesn’t flee the battlefield!”
Saying this, Charlotte raised her right hand, and a magic broomstick materialized out of thin air, flying into her palm.
“Besides, don’t worry. I am the most excellent disciple of Chloe Luna, the Night Witch! I will win this battle!”
