Chapter 116: Is it funny that the seal caused a magic leak?

“Right, we’ve arrived,” Alice said, stopping her steps.

Charlotte, who was following behind, looked up and saw that they had reached the entrance of the diagonally descending cave. A staircase snaked down the slick rock face, with no end in sight.

“What is this, an imperial mausoleum?” Charlotte couldn’t help but complain at the sight.

“The dragon bone that needs its seal reinforced is directly beneath this staircase. By the way, Witch-sama, it’s a bit dark inside. Will that be a problem for you to go down?”

“Am I a child who’s afraid of the dark? You don’t need to worry. As long as this staircase isn’t wet, I could walk down with my eyes closed and be fine.” Charlotte patted her small chest confidently.

“Is that so? Then I’ll go ahead and wait for you at the bottom.”

After saying this, Alice suddenly leaped up and moved down the shaft, bouncing back and forth between the rock walls. In the blink of an eye, her figure merged with the darkness, leaving Charlotte standing alone at the entrance, staring blankly.

“Eh? Wait, you’re not using the stairs?”

Seeing Alice deliberately showing off, Charlotte refused to be outdone. She quickly pulled out her magic broomstick, mounted it, and prepared to chase after Alice.

But the moment she got on the broomstick, a sharp pain shot through her buttock.

“Eek! I almost forgot I can’t ride it like this!”

Charlotte had no choice but to lie prone on the broomstick and fly down into the cave.

The light inside was bright at first, but as she descended deeper, it grew darker and darker.

If she were just walking down the stairs, a little darkness wouldn’t matter.

But Charlotte was flying on a broomstick and was in constant danger of hitting the wall.

Charlotte decided to summon a small fireball to illuminate her surroundings.

The moment she summoned the fireball, a long, narrow stalactite suddenly appeared in front of her. Charlotte almost slammed right into it.

Fortunately, Charlotte reacted quickly, dodging the stalactite like evading a bullet in a barrage game.

But there were many more such stalactites ahead, forcing Charlotte to fly low along the stairs.

It was only then that she understood what Alice meant by asking if the darkness inside the cave would be a problem for her.

If she hadn’t summoned the fireball beforehand, she would have died halfway down, like the Emperor Zhaolie during the Battle of Yiling.

After flying low along the stairs for a while, she finally saw Alice’s figure.

Alice had reached the bottom of the stairs and was turning to look in her direction with a composed expression.

“Hmm? Is this how all you witches ride your brooms?” Seeing Charlotte clinging to the broomstick and flying up to her, Alice asked curiously.

“No, there’s a very specific reason for this,” Charlotte lightly touched the side of her face to cover her embarrassment.

She couldn’t exactly tell Alice that her mother had beaten her up before she left home.

“So, where is the dragon bone that needs the seal reinforced?” Charlotte asked Alice, now that she had reached the bottom of the stairs.

“It’s over there,” Alice pointed forward.

Charlotte looked in the direction Alice was pointing. Not far ahead, a mysterious altar was situated, and on the altar, a pitch-black dragon bone was strikingly visible under the candlelight.

The soldiers guarding the altar saw Alice and Charlotte approach and came forward to greet Alice.

“Commander, you’re here!”

Alice nodded slightly.

“What’s the situation?”

“Everything is normal. The Barrier Masters are in excellent condition and can begin the work of repairing the seal at any moment.”

“Good. Then let’s start now!”

Under Alice’s command, the ready Barrier Masters set off, each walking to their designated position and softly chanting the incantation for the sealing magic.

As they chanted, a massive blue magic circle flashed on the ground around the altar.

This was the magic circle used to seal the dragon bone. As the Barrier Masters slowly injected magical power into the circle, the magic circle beneath their feet gradually became brighter.

Alice and the guarding soldiers stood not far away, observing the situation.

Charlotte, meanwhile, ambled over to the altar and looked down at the massive magic circle.

‘I see. So this is the so-called sealing magic? It looks quite powerful!’

Charlotte subconsciously nodded slightly.

Although the task Alice gave her was to check whether the seal still had any flaws after the reinforcement, that was for later. For now, Charlotte was still completely idle.

‘It seems the problem will be perfectly solved just by filling this magic circle with magical power. This hardly takes any effort!’

‘Why did the Commander of the Holy Knights bother to ask me to come along and join the fun?’

Charlotte was confused.

However, in the midst of her confusion, she suddenly noticed something strange.

Just as the massive blue magic circle was shining brightly and about to be filled with magical power, a small area in an inconspicuous corner of the altar suddenly flickered with a faint light.

“Hmm?” Charlotte, noticing the anomaly, walked over and saw a palm-sized magic circle glowing faintly beneath a stone. “Is this also part of the plan?”

Charlotte looked back at the large blue magic circle, which was nearly overflowing with power, then looked at the inconspicuous small magic circle at her feet.

“I have a feeling these two aren’t compatible. Is this small magic circle really necessary for reinforcing the seal?”

Skeptical, Charlotte took a closer look. Suddenly, she noticed faint tracing marks around the edge of the small magic circle.

That meant this small magic circle had been drawn very recently.

And the style of this magic circle was completely different from the large one.

Realizing this, Charlotte’s eyes widened in shock. She immediately shouted at the Barrier Masters who were reinforcing the seal.

“Stop! Don’t inject any more magical power! It’s a trap!”

But she was one step too late. The moment she realized something was wrong, an azure flame suddenly erupted out of thin air, completely engulfing one of the Barrier Masters.

“Ah—” The Barrier Master, completely covered in fire, frantically left his position, rolling on the ground to extinguish the flames on his body.

Before the other Barrier Masters could react, they too were wrapped in flames that appeared out of nowhere.

“What is going on?”

The entire scene instantly descended into chaos.

Fortunately, Charlotte quickly summoned several water balls and threw them at the burning Barrier Masters, extinguishing the flames and saving their lives.

However, although the Barrier Masters were saved, the massive magic circle they had been maintaining immediately disconnected from them. Guided by the azure flames, the huge amount of magical power accumulated in the large magic circle surged toward the dragon bone on the altar.

Under everyone’s horrified gaze, a colossal evil dragon suddenly emerged from the center of the magic circle.
