Join the ServerNoticing that Roland was still stubbornly charging toward him, the white-haired boy snorted.
“Hmph, you simply won’t learn! In that case, I’ll let you taste my power!”
As he finished speaking, towering flames suddenly erupted around Roland, standing firm like a line of armored soldiers, blocking Roland’s path.
The scorching flames surrounded Roland, and the air warped from the heat; through the gaps in the fire, the figure of the white-haired boy seemed distant and unreachable.
Roland struggled to push through the flames before him.
“Flames of this level… don’t think you can block my resolve to save Miss Rhynes!”
Just as Roland took a deep breath, preparing to burst through the fire in one go, the scorching flames instantly transformed into freezing ice spikes.
Countless blooming ice flowers sparkled around Roland; one moment he was being scorched by fire, the next he was gasping as the cold hit him, his hands trembling uncontrollably.
His warm breath turned instantly into ice crystals, falling onto the frozen flowers beneath his feet like decorations on a five-star dish.
Roland’s eyes widened; the boy had reversed the magic so quickly and seamlessly—clearly, he was an expert in the mystic arts!
But even so, his resolve to rescue Miss Rhynes remained unshaken!
Roland used his nearly frozen hands to grip his sword, hacking through the ice spikes to carve a path toward the boy.
However, a second later, the ice spikes shattered into countless tiny fragments, swirling toward Roland like a blizzard.
In a heartbeat, dozens of small cuts appeared on Roland’s body, the icy gale blocking his progress.
But Roland gritted his teeth, enduring the storm of crystals, and continued to advance toward the white-haired boy step by step.
The boy simply watched Roland approach, making no further move to impede him with magic.
To be precise, he hadn’t performed any magical gestures from the beginning, because for him, magic was something he could release with a mere thought.
Through his relentless effort, Roland finally overcame all obstacles and reached the boy.
The white-haired boy merely raised his right hand and touched his finger to Roland’s forehead.
“Though your efforts were commendable… they were utterly meaningless! For I am an opponent you can never surpass!”
The moment he finished speaking, a blast of compressed air erupted from his fingertip; the resulting wind blade instantly sliced Roland’s body, blood splattering like blooming roses. Roland felt as if he had been shot, and he was sent flying backward with a look of shock, landing twenty meters away, unable to move.
Roland was now severely wounded, his body covered in long, narrow gashes from the wind blade, with blood flowing continuously. He could feel his life force slipping through his fingers like shifting sand, beyond his power to save.
Yet, compared to his physical trauma, the shock to Roland’s spirit was far more violent.
He still couldn’t understand what had just happened, why he had been sent flying so suddenly; had his desperate struggle to reach the boy been negated by a mere flick of a finger?
Was the gap between them really so vast?
His body grew heavier, his arms lost their strength, and his consciousness began to drift…
‘If I don’t get up and keep fighting, Miss Rhynes will be…’
‘Am I really destined to lie here helplessly and watch the girl I want to protect disappear forever?’
‘I will never allow that to happen!’
‘Even if it costs me my life, I will take Miss Rhynes back!’
The boy seemed confident that Roland would no longer be a problem.
As long as he dealt with this “root of the world’s destruction,” he could then use Memory Magic to erase the intruder’s memories, and the matter would be perfectly resolved.
However, just as he turned and took a few steps, he sensed something and whirled around, only to see the fallen Roland staggering to his feet like a zombie.
Blood gushed from his wounds, yet he seemed to feel nothing; there was no fear in his eyes, no cry of pain, only a single-minded obsession to defeat him.
“I won’t let… you hurt… Miss Rhynes!”
Blood flowed along Roland’s skin onto his sword, and instantly, the blade erupted with a bright flame.
Roland’s body moved like a flash of lightning, charging rapidly toward the white-haired boy.
The boy merely frowned slightly, his face showing his displeasure.
He hated repeating the same task.
If this cavern weren’t his temporary magical workshop, incapable of withstanding his full power, he would have ended the man’s obsession with a “Super-Tier” spell long ago.
However, even with simple magic, he was confident he could easily strike down the human again.
After all, human effort has its limits, and this man had clearly reached his.
In a flash, a ball of fire engulfed Roland’s figure, yet the flames did not consume him; instead, they were absorbed by the fire on his sword, fueling his charge.
The next second, countless ice spikes appeared around Roland, shooting toward him.
Roland showed no fear; he swung his flaming sword, destroying the incoming ice spikes, the fire on his blade like a roaring dragon sweeping everything aside.
At this moment, Roland had channeled all his magical power into his sword, burning his very life to deliver his strongest strike.
In moments, Roland reached the boy, raising his flaming sword to strike at his head.
“Sword Skill—Peak Attain—”
However, before Roland could name his move, a barrage of wind blades erupted, not only cutting him but also causing the raging flames on his sword to vanish instantly.
The white-haired boy stared coldly at Roland; it seemed that even by burning his life, Roland still couldn’t become a worthy opponent.
“I told you, I am an opponent you can never surpass; you don’t even have the right to touch me—”
But just as he said this, the boy’s eyes widened, and he froze on the spot.
After a brief silence, his gaze drifted downward, staring in disbelief at the silver dagger Roland had somehow produced and stabbed into the side of his neck.
The next second, Roland was sent flying by an ice wall, landing ten meters away.
The blow caused no substantial damage, and he quickly scrambled to his feet.
The white-haired boy, his neck pierced by the Dragon Slaying Dagger released from Roland’s sword hilt, was no longer his previous calm self.
“How do you have this dagger? Are you… a descendant of the Dragon Slayers?”
The boy clutched his neck, his body swaying as if he could no longer maintain his balance.
The gaze he directed at Roland was filled with intense murderous intent; it was clear that Roland’s strike was fatal to him.
Ordinarily, if it were a common dagger, being stabbed in the neck would be a minor inconvenience.
But this was a Dragon Slaying Dagger; the moment it entered his neck, he felt a disastrous reversal and collapse within his magic circuits, his vast magical power evaporating rapidly and turning into an uncontrollable tide that swallowed his reason.
Despite all his calculations, he had overlooked this one possibility.
“Damn it! How could I have been bested by the likes of you?”
Because his magical power was rampaging uncontrollably, the entire cavern began to shake violently, as if about to collapse.
Seeing this, Roland used the last of his strength to run toward Rhynes.
“Don’t you dare save the root of destruction!”
The boy tried to concentrate to cast a powerful finishing move on Roland, but before he could, a falling stalactite crushed him, and all sound ceased.
Roland didn’t dare to linger; rubble was raining down, and the cavern wouldn’t last much longer.
He rushed to Rhynes’s side, smashed the purple magic circle with a punch, and scooped her up, running back the way he came while dodging falling rocks.
Through his efforts, he managed to rescue the unconscious Rhynes and return to the royal capital, where they found safety in an open-air restaurant.
After some simple bandaging, Roland was out of danger, and he sat there quietly waiting for Rhynes to wake, pretending nothing had happened.
Rhynes woke up shortly after, in the early evening.
Judging by her expression, she had no memory of being abducted by a strange, white-haired boy.
Roland chose not to tell her about the battle; after all, the claim that Rhynes was the “root of the world’s destruction” was something she must never know.
It was likely just the boy’s delusional rambling; how could someone as devoted to finding happiness as Miss Rhynes ever destroy the entire world?
****
These were the contents of the missing pages from the adventure log—details that even Rhynes herself never knew.
When the log was being compiled, Roland, as the first reader, had secretly torn these pages out and kept them in a locked drawer.
He didn’t want Rhynes to know she was supposedly the source of the world’s destruction.
Perhaps something similar would happen in the future, but he would never let it happen again.
Gazing at the torn pages, Roland made a silent vow, then tucked them back into the drawer and left the room.
He had no idea that his every move was being watched by the white-haired boy, thousands of miles away.
Seventeen years had passed since he was severely wounded by Roland’s Dragon Slaying Dagger.
Since his narrow escape, he had been keeping a close watch on Roland; he could never leave the “root of destruction” alone.
Unfortunately, with his current abilities, he could no longer use magic normally; it would take fifty years to return to his former peak.
It was all because of Roland’s strike—or rather, his own arrogance.
To think that after a thousand years of existence, he had become omnipotent—it was a grand joke.
At this thought, the white-haired boy burst into laughter.
– “Hey, you bastard, what are you laughing at all by yourself?”
A green-haired man nearby shot him a look of disdain.
– “Maybe he thought of something funny!”
An Ice Wolf girl on the other side offered her opinion.
Noticing he had lost his composure, the boy quickly suppressed his arrogant laughter.
“My apologies. Where were we?”
“We have prepared a massive joint demon army; it won’t be long before we cross the Boundary Mountains and sweep away the decadent human empire.”
“As a Mage who has wandered human lands for a millennium, you surely know where the empire’s weakest point is!”
The red-haired girl on the throne asked the boy.
“Of course. If Your Excellency Zhenhong leads the army personally, no human will be a match for you.”
“After all, I, the White Dragon Yang Yan, have never found an opponent as troublesome as Shera was.”
“As the new monarch of the demons, Your Excellency Zhenhong can rest assured; this campaign will be smooth sailing!”
Yang Yan made this promise, yet just as he hadn’t foreseen Roland stabbing him in the neck seventeen years ago, he had overlooked one more person—a silver-haired girl who would make him realize that his assumption about Rhynes being the source of destruction was wrong.
The true root of the world’s destruction was this girl!
